DVD?

This show was ultra-cheesy, but I would enjoy seeing it on DVD. It did make it into a second season, so maybe there would be enough draw for a limited DVD.

There is an EXCELLENT DVD set available, but you have to search for it. It has EVERY episode (seasons 1 & 2 complete!). There is also a set from The Philipines, which also has to be tracked down

reply

From what I've seen, you can find complete sets on Ebay (Ya I actually got them...I couldn't help it haha) but be warned those are basically dvd's composed of episodes taped from tv. Mind you they are without commercials and have menus and all, but the larger the screen you watch them on, the more blurry they are.

I don't know about the sets from the Phillipines or Thailand or wherever, I've seen them on Ebay but they look to be only certain episodes from season 2.

Nowadays so many shows get the dvd treatment, I wish they would put this one out....

reply

AHA! I got one of those sets and I know what you mean about them being DVD transfers from VHS. HOWEVER: for what they are, they are superbly produced and packaged, the surround sound is perfect, so is the color, and every single episode is included. The blurriness I find to be slight and the eye adjusts to that, so it doesn't bother me. I am very happy with my set and ever so grateful to have this wonderful one-of-a-kind show in any form. HOWEVER: I would be the first in line if they were ever released by a commercial company. I also wish the wayCool music and jazz vocals were available on CD.
For now, this will suffice...

reply

Hi--go to eBay, type in MATT McCOLM (or try NIGHTMAN)and that should take you to the site that is offering them. Thy're not cheap, but the quality is suprisingly good and the set contains EVERY episode. I'm VERY satisfied with them...Good Luck

i love you

B--thankew! BTW: please be discreet with the info I gave you. Dig? AL

cant wait to see night man fly through the air ;)

ALERT! I was so thrilled with my $60.00 8-disc NIGHTMAN DVD-R set--cool action menus, cool disc labels, cool surroundsound, all comercials deleted(these were taped off TV)and every single episode! WOW! So, I started with disc#1 and watched Season#1 in consecutive order. Teriffic. But when I got to disc#5---guess what? The last 4 discs (Season2) are BLANK! I'm hoping this was just an innocent oversight on the seller's part & that he'll replace these for me, IF I can track him down...only I don't see him selling on eBay right now...There is a co. in Thailand that put out 10 episodes on 5 discs--they're OCASIONALLY available on eBay from an outfit in England. I got all 5 of them and they're good quality and beautifully packaged. If you really care, I suggest you constantly keep checking eBay under listing NIGHTMAN or MATT McCOLM. If I duped my Season #1 for you I would charge you what I paid for that much...Good luck, and please let me know if you find this guy (last I checked he was selling them for about $45.00) AL

reply

Yes Ebay can be tricky. I got season 2 first...but it took A WHILE TO SHIP! I had to really bug the guy and almost got to the point of ratting on him to Paypal for screwing me over, but then conveniently he "re-shipped" it for me and I got it!

That being said, I went and got season 1 from Ebay a little while later and it came just fine! I've watched most of season 2 and so far everything is fine. I have yet to see season 1 (ya I know I watched them out of order haha) but it should be ok as well. Both sets came on 4 dvd-r's, with colour pictures printed right on the cd's, menu's with theme music and everything. Pretty impressive. The only thing is that the larger the tv you watch the sets on, the granier the quality. But I can say that even on a 27 inch tv it looks fantastic.

From what I've seen recently on Ebay there is a lot more sets selling now than there were last year. Just search like velenworth said to and you'll be good!

CR--This guy has turned out to be a SleazeBag. He now displays his web on a 24 hr basis, changes his eMail name daily, claims to be in Australia, lists bidders and buyers as "private", won't dispaly feedback and on and on. I was very pleased with the 4 seasonONE discs, but the 4 seasonTWO discs are blank except for the nice artwork on them. He refuses to make this right for me, won't answer eMails, etc. I have his home address--he lives in Wisconsin. I have no problem with the quality of the image because I'm grateful to have them at all and the surround sound and the "packaging" are Cool. I did get those 5 DVD's from Thailand and I'm glad I did--they have 2 episodes each from SeasonTWO and they are of superb DVD quality (visually & surround sound) and very nicely packaged...Do you have a DVD-R recorder? If so, would you be willing to dupe your seasonTWO for me? I'll pay for them of course, or maybe trade you copies of the (better quality) Thailland discs?...Lemmeknow, AL

As a writer on Nightman, I'm dismayed to hear about the apparently pirated DVDs, mostly because I'll never see a dime. However, I love the fact that at least a few people still want to see the show despite its many endearing faults.

reply

I always enjoyed the series, and esp. the soundtrack. It was a fun little show, I thought. I had hoped it would have gone at least one more season so storylines could have been wrapped.

By chance, would you know who to contact about a possible dvd and or soundtrack release? With so many short-lived shows from the 1990's syndication era coming out, or already out on dvd, I would think NightMan deserves a release as well.

reply

Vote for it on tvshowsondvd. That's all I can think of. Does Tribune or Alliance Atlantis own it? It aired on WGN for many years after it was cancelled...

I always prefered season one to season two.

reply

I REALLY REALLY wish there was a way I could watch this show and have at least some of the money go to the writers and other people involved. It really was an enjoyable show. I'd be willing to pay a lot for a legitimate DVD set. But all I'm stuck with is 10 episodes from season 2 that I found in a shop in Thailand.
But I am totally unable to find it on ebay or elsewhere, I would LOVE to get a copy of the whole show somehow, pirated or not.

reply

I agree this is the best we're going to have until Tribune or somebody actually releases it. These were taped off WGN Superstation circa 2003-2005. I don't know if there are any scenes cut from the original syndication airings. In any event, the 90 minute pirate was chopped into two episodes...

I emailed WGN and asked who has the home video rights and they gave me this contact:

Tribune Entertainment Company at (323) 460-5800.

I just dug the series out of my 5,000+ VHS collection. Just haveta make time to sit and watch the episodes. Shame that people have to resort to the bootleggers but if they weren't around to tape it and the studios in question refuse to release it then that's the only way to see it. Thankfully, I don't have to resort to that to watch many of these old shows: Nightman, Viper, Werewolf, Captain Power, Robocop The Series, The Highwayman, etc.

i ordered dvd of 2 eps off ebay, they came there but my mate has them.so any other fans out there who wanna get their hands on this masterpiece, ebay seems to be the only way to go

Actually I found a fairly good burnt version of the entire series on ioffer.com but the last 3 episodes of season 1 and the first episode of season 2 were too buggy to play on my computer, might work in a different player though. Bad Burn I guess. Didn't notice until it was too late to ask for a replacement disc. But I have the whole series now, and it didn't cost much, so I'm happy.

But I still feel bad paying for a pirated version when at least SOME of the money should be going to the people responsible for making the show.
But when they don't give you the option.....

I guess too much time has passed since it's original release, most fans have forgotten about it or gotten a pirated copy. If they released a DVD set it might not sell enough to cover costs at this point.

But there are still a lot of fans out there who like seeing Matt McColm in that homosexual bondage suit kicking arse and killing the badguys without having to face the police after.

Also there is an unofficial Thai dubbed DVD set floating around Thailand, gets sold in legitimate shops sometimes, if you're really lucky you can stumble upon it. It has the english language option so you don't HAVE to watch it in Thai, although it does make it more amusing.

Hi. This is what I've dug up: The show was a success; they were preparing the third season when the "rights" to the comic book were sold to an outfit in Malibu--they raised the "rental" to use the NIGHTMAN image to such an outrageous ammount that the producers said *beep* and cancelled the show. Too bad. How I wish Glen Larson would release a slam-bang "authorized" DVD set with extras and a CD with all that cool jazz and another one with the "soundtrack".
Untill then, I content myself with my treasured excellent-quality bootleg set.

reply

False... at least to the Malibu Comics liscensing part. Malibu (under its Ultraverse imprint) created NightMan in 1993. Malibu was then sold to Marvel Comics two years later. Marvel then proceeded to change whatever they wanted, but were stuck fufilling previous contracts that Malibu had already signed into deals. NightMan and the "Ultraforce" cartoon series were either in production or pre-production when Marvel bought Malibu. They were even forced to deal with contracts pertaining to the writers of Malibu who had a hand in creating the Ultraverse; the creators were entitled to a small percentage of profits made through comics or other mediums where their characters appeared. Marvel did pull the plug on the "Ultraforce" cartoon after one season was in the can, but the NightMan series generated enough ratings that they were forced to wait until an opportunity presented itself. In 1998, about half-way through season two of NightMan, Marvel fell into bancruptcy due to bad business dealings in the early to mid 1990s (they went on a spending spree, buying competitors, card companies, even a comic book distributor named Heroes World to distribute their comics through exclusively). They closed every single medium (other liscened properties being published by Marvel at the time, their animation studios, etc.) they could to restructure aside from comics... in a sense, it was better to take a small hit so that the company could survive. NightMan was a casulty of that. So was The Silver Surfer cartoon, the 1990s Hulk Cartoon and premature cancellations of two yet-to-debut cartoons "Spider-Man Unlimited" and "The Avengers". This even killed planned animated series like "Captain America" and "Daredevil". In the case of NightMan, it was the final nail in Malibu Comics' coffin (being as that was the absolute last item that showcased the Malibu Ultraverse properties) and Marvel has no plans on reviving NightMan or the other Ultraverse characters.

I do agree that there probably would have been a third season, but it's probably much better that it didn't happen.

I wish would it come to DVD because I would surprise my parents with it. They really liked this show. A website like ioffer would have it, but it needs an official release.
