Ending always gets me

I love the ending of this movie when he comes around that corner of that path.....the look on her face..... just gets me every time. Never fails no matter how many times I see this movie.

I saw this movie a couple of times in the last month and...I'm just, I'm such a sucker for it. But one of my favorite lines is from Joe Fox towards the end, when he says how he'd ask her out if they basically had a do over. In fact that whole conversation just completely melts me. I'm always standing two feet away from the tv, holding my breath the entire time. Jesus, I'm a dork. I'd marry the man who would come up with that line...I so would.

Joe Fox: You know, sometimes I wonder...
Kathleen Kelly: What?
Joe Fox: Well... if I hadn't been Fox Books and you hadn't been The Shop Around the Corner, and you and I had just, well, met...
Kathleen Kelly: I know.
Joe Fox: Yeah. I would have asked for your number, and I wouldn't have been able to wait twenty-four hours before calling you and saying, "Hey, how about... oh, how about some coffee or, you know, drinks or dinner or a movie... for as long as we both shall live?"
Kathleen Kelly: Joe...
Joe Fox: And you and I would have never been at war. And the only thing we'd fight about would be which video to rent on a Saturday night.
Kathleen Kelly: Well, who fights about that?
Joe Fox: Well, some people. Not us.
Kathleen Kelly: We would never.
Joe Fox: If only.

It shows that real love is about looking past the ugly exterior and noticing how good a person is at heart. If she can forgive Joe like that, anyone can be forgiven. That's a beautiful sentiment that Meg and Tom carry out like no one else in movies.

Get off your soapbox while I play you a tune on the tiniest violin.

Me too -- doesn't matter how many times I see this film, I still get tearful at the end!

For me it's not just the look on her face but even more so the look on his face, because he already knew she was Shopgirl and he just stands there with that look of "yep it's me." I love his knowing look, he looks patient and caring as he watches her realize.
