French New Wave homages?

The description that the Criterion Collection disc has on the back cover says 'Rushmore' is "part French New Wave homage".

I have only seen one French New Wave title and didn't notice any nods to it in this movie. Anybody else who's more familiar with the genre able to tell me other spots in the film that made it French New Wave-esque?

I dont think that description is appropriate. Well, every Anderson movie has this kind of Nouvelle Vague-esh flair you would refer to Godard or Truffaut. But not explicit to describe a movie with that. Its just Anderson flair with his influences in it. An beside that, its really hard to say what exactly New Wave-ish elements are. New Wave is about lifes life, peoples life, living in communes as students who live life in a city and so on...

It certainly has an irreverent attitude of the French New Wave.

It's that man again!!
