Am I the only person out there who really doesn't get Anderson's movies? TRT was ok, but Rushmore was an utter load of guff. His quirky style I find tiresome, immensely unfunny and incredibly overrated. I may try to readdress some of his films soon, as I feel I am missing something. I like the look of the Life Aquatic but I've been rather put off by his other films.

What happened to BuzzSaw?

@daffyj I agree with you so far. I loved the look of Life Aquatic and some of the other things making it one of my favorite movies. My taste doesn't change often, but I'm in a sort of depression and the only films I like to watch are fun, feel-good movies because they cheer me up. As of right now, all of his films I've seen I really liked, but I totally see where your coming from. I don't think they are XD funny, but they keep me thourouly entertained.

RUSHMORE IS A GREAT MOVIE DUDE, IT WAS HIS FIRST REAL MOTION PICTURE AND HE WAS TESTING IT OUT, IT WAS FUNNY AND OKWARD .. REWATCH IT

I sort of agree with daffyj. I love Rushmore and The Life Aquatic but The Royal Tenenbaums, Bottle Rocket, and Fantastic Mr. Fox are all incredibly overrated. Haven't seen The Darjeeling Limited.

reply

I agree. I think he is very overrated. Haven't enjoyed any of his films (I mean they are ok but not as good as given credit for)He seems to be one of those you can't say anything bad about or you get a whole load of people jumping down your throat. He tries too hard to be quirky to the point where it is not natural and comes across quite fake and unrealistic.

Just my personal opinion though. Maybe I just don't 'get' his style of humour.

7. lost in translation

Is that meant to be some kind of joke?

Hey, Bats. It's The Life Aquatic, Not aquarim (or aquarium as I'm sure you were trying to spell) and Lost In Translation was directed by Sofia Coppola and has nothing to do with Wes Anderson besides the fact that Bill Murray is in it, But I don't go around thinking that every new Leo Dicaprio movie is directed by Scorsese Or that every Johnny Depp movie is a Tim Burton film. Just wanted to clarify so the OP doesn't get confused. Here's my rundown

1. The Life Aquatic
2. Bottle Rocket
3. Rushmore
4. The Royal Tenenbaums
5. The Darjeeling Limited
6. Fantastic Mr. Fox

7 Would have to be Moonrise Kingdom considering I haven't seen it yet. I'm sure it will be amazing.

Wes Anderson's films in order from my favorite to least favorite:

Rushmore
Life Aquatic
Darjeeling Ltd.
Royal Tennenbaums
Bottle Rocket
Fantasic Mr. Fox

Most Wes Anderson fans I know seem to always put Royal Tennenbaums at number one because it encapsilates best all of the quirks that make his movies so good, but without being cheesy or flimsy (Life Aquatic and Darjeeling, respectively).

But personally I will always love Rushmore the best. In fact tomorrow it will be playing at my local arthouse theater for a midnight showing and I cannot wait. Rushmore just has this feeling around it I just cannot shake. I would love to be and fear being Max Fisher at the same time and damn it Bill Murray is the best arch enemy a kid could have.

While Royal is probably a much better film than Life or Darjeeling, it's not as interesting. I think Bill Murray is at his best in Life Aquatic and Darjeeling Ltd. is so abstract it gets me every time. Bottle Rocket is a great early attempt and you can see the genius there, even though it's not quite fleshed out. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a great film BUT it's like I would rather see this film in live action, the stop motion really wasn't necessary.

For those that haven't seen his works yet I would say you should watch them in this order:

Royal Tennenbaums
Life Aquatic
Rushmore
Darjeeling Limited
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Bottle Rocket

reply

1. Fantastic MR. Fox- The animation is just amazing and there are so many little things that make this an incredible film

2. Rushmore- Amazing from start to finish. The soundtrack is great, and Max is one of the great characters of modern cinema.

3. The Life Aquatic- Just love the whole story. I think this was his most well shot film.

4. The Royal Tenenbaums- So many memorable characters is this one. And of course, andother incredible soundtrack

5. The Darjeeling Limited- A Solid film, but not quite as effective as the tohers, IMO

6. Bottle Rocket- Have yet to see this one, so I'll just rank it last

I think numbers 2, 3, and 4 are the best for an introduction to Wes

reply

1. Rushmore - Amazing film, Schwartzman and Murray are brilliant great soundtrack.
2. Bottle Rocket- Owen Wilsons best role, great acting and superb comedy
3. The Life Aquatic- Bill Muarry is amazing, A beautiful film
4. The Royal Tenenbaums - Great characters, great soundtrack, great writing
5. The Darjeeling Limited - though my least favorite is still a very enjoyable film.

Just wholeheartly agree with you here. Although I would swap 3 and 4.
For Bottle Rocket, it is still a very funny film. It is not as good as others but still very promising and enjoyable. God, I don't know, maybe my opinion will change the second time I watch it. lol.

I'm a big Wes Anderson fan. Rushmore is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the next 4 are all great...but I don't "get" The Royal Tenenbaums. Very overrated, in my opinion. Not bad...but by far my least favorite.

Not seen fantastic mr fox

Im not seeing the love for the royal tenenbaums either, I would definitely watch it again, but i feel its got too many characters, and doesnt cover enough ground in any sense. Whereas the first 3 all cover the main relationships in the films in details, and are all affecting in their own way.
