Need Help With Ending

I originally assumed there was some time skip and that he eventually figured out how to make it back to Africa. Alternatively, maybe he did contact his daughter and perhaps she had his belongings (i.e. passport) and gave it to him. Back in those years they didn't use computers at airports but just looked at the photo and made handwritten notes at entry points, so now that I think about it further, he probably had no problem returning to Africa. He cleaned up good, probably wore a suit, and perhaps his daughter even gave him the money for the plane ticket.
