Just had the DVD .... Fun trip down memory lane

Just finished the DVD of this and what a fun trip down memory lane.

Loved the episode with Robby the Robot. How can you not love Robby?

The only quibble I had with the whole premise was that they travel from spot to spot, and the Ark is suppsoed to contain all this knowledge and stuff but they don't actually dispense any of that or teach anyone they visit how to better themselves or such.....

Also that they traven with not a single weapon could lead to problems you can't talk yourself out of. OK sorry adult brain trying to analyse kid's show....

But points worth noting.

After watching most of the episodes, it occured to me that they used the same landscape for almost every episode. Malibu Creek State Park in the Santa Monica Mountains, (where 'Planet of the Apes' and 'M*A*S*H' were filmed) is the location for EVERY episode as far as I can tell. They merely pointed the camera in a different direction to make it look alittle bit different.....but it's the same place each week. Talk about being thrifty. LOL!

OMG I didn't notice LOL........

Almost as thrifty as the legendary Irwin Allen who used the same stage for every planet on Lost In Space.

Well, it was a TV show for kids. What were you expecting?

Yeah that's true. They fix the issue they are assigned to fix and then leave.

'Also that they traven with not a single weapon could lead to problems you can't talk yourself out of.

Not so. They have a couple of hand-held weapons. They have those things they use to blind people and they have laser drills.

Don't be sorry. For a kid's show this is pretty adult, probably the most adult of Filmation's live action shows.

'But points worth noting.'

Points worth responding to.

Yeah, that was my thought upon watching the intro to an episode the other night for the first time in decades since this show was originally on (I can only veeeeeery vaguely remember the show but I'm pretty sure I watched it), as that it has a very bleak premise. I can only assume that, as a kid, I didn't really catch that, because they had all this cool technology, the Ark II and the like (along with a hot exotic female character :) ), but I can't really say either way (again, not remembering it real well).

Muggy, I just watched all 15 episodes on youTube, Robby The Robot had a different voice to what we got on Forbidden Planet so he was too different in Ark ll to me.

There are four episodes of this series that will be forever called OUTSTANDING to me.

The show had some good guest stars (Jonathan Harris, Malachi Throne) but you got the feeling the director walked up to them and said: "Hey guys, this is a kid's show, so you must over act and over do every word and action to keep the kid's attention going". Just my view as I am an actor in Australia myself.

Whet were your 4 best episodes?
