Melanie

I for one hated Melanie with a passion, a damn fiery one. For some reason I could feel no sympathy for her especially since she was so cold about ripping the baby from his arms. HATE

omg i hated her too. i couldn't belive she felt she had the right to take the baby from jason without so much as an explaination of why she abandoned him in the first place! i hated the end. Jason should have gotten full custody because she left them.

HATED her!!! thought she was the biggest dog...so insensitive. BITCH

reply

Ditto. I couldn't stand her. I don't excuse Jason's behavior at the beginning, but at least he stood up when he realized. She didn't seem to make a real effort in the first place to notify him, did she even tell him when she had the baby? She was irresponsible for leaving the baby with him in the first place. WHy would someone do that if she put him down for not taking responsibility in the first place. She should feel lucky that he didn't put him in foster care or that he didn't move clear cross country. I think Melanie's friend was right when she said that why would she even leave her baby with someone that she doesn't even like or trust. If I were Melanie, I wouldn't have bad mouth my kids father if I was seekimng custody when I already have the fact that I abandoned my kid on a doorstep. She didn't deserve to have Sean back in her life.

I think that she should feel even luckier that another woman didn't step in and
take over the role of mother for Shawn.

Money isn't the root of all evil. Love of money is.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say that I did feel bad for Melanie in this movie. BAG treated her like crap when she told him when she was pregnant. With her mother bitching at her about how she screwed up, and her dreams of art school gone down the drain, Melanie felt so helpless and desperate. She might have been going through some post partum depression too. Nothing fully justifies her actions, but she certainly had some crappy circumstances going on.

I have to agree with the majority here. Melanie bugged me. At first I did feel sorry for her. Jason was an ass at the beginning and his behavior isn't excusable. But I couldn't help but have no remorse for her. Does anyone know if legally she would've actually gotten the kid?

Plus, my biggest pet peeve about her: her jealousy. She practically jumped down her friend's throat when she said she was friends with Jason. Why does it matter to her? What difference does it make if they're friends or not? That's none of her business.

"Rue the day?" Who talks like that?

I guess Melanie is an unsympathetic character but Nicholle Tom is so adorable, I'll watch her in anything.

I think it's funny that people are this angry with a girl for leaving her child when this is what happens with young fathers everyday in our society. They automatically leave their child with someone and they don't even know if they're responsible. Then they pop up years later when it's convenient for them and say "OK I'm ready to be a dad".

Personally I love the fact that the girl and her mom were not taking full responsibility for this and when left on the boy's family they couldn't handle it.

I think the reason is no one really expects teen dads to be there. Which is sad, but true. No one really says to them "this is your child, you should be there just like her." In fact, I've seen most mothers of the fathers say "this child might not be yours, let's wait til it's born and see if the kids yours or not."
