Homage to Dazed and Confused

The scene when the stoner dude talks about aliens, pretzels and Velma from Scooby do is extremely similar to the scene in Dazed and Confused where Slater talks about aliens, weed and Martha Washington.

Stoner Guy: You know who else I like that didn't get much play? Velma from Scooby-Doo. She was cool. She was a hip, hip lady.

Dazed and Confused:

Slater: Behind every good man there is a woman, and that woman was Martha Washington, man, and everyday George would come home, she would have a big fat bowl waiting for him, man, when he come in the door, man, she was a hip, hip, hip lady, man.
