Was the Beatles reference intentional?

I always wondered if the band playing at the party was slightly making fun of the Beatles. The lead singer looked so much like John Lennon that he could easily play him in a movie, and he was wearing one of those billowy hippy shirts from the 60s . At one point the band argues and talks about splitting up. Then one of the members eventually tries to get the group back together like Paul McCartney did. On top of all this, the Beatles started as a band in high school just like these guys. Am I reading too much into something or were they making fun of the Beatles...or possibly the Beatles along with other famous groups? Even if you laugh at the correlations I make, the actor playing the lead singer looked freakishly like John Lennon.

I'm not seeing the "freakishly like John Lennon" thing. The actor - though he was uncredited - was, I think, Breckin Meyer. He's been in lots of lots of things without whatever resemblance he might have to John Lennon ever having been noticed, so far as I can tell. There's some similarity in the nose. But the eyes are totally different, as is their bone structure. The costume doesn't look like anything John Lennon ever wore.

The rest is just ordinary every-band-in-the-world stuff.

I think it was a coincidence.
