No one liked it?!

C'mon people, this movie was pretty cool. Sure it's not the best in the world, but it was darn good. All of the acting was great, I got hooked to this movie. It was creepy like the other Larry Clark directed films, and it deserves more attention. Bully, and Kids get all the hype, this should too.

Loves_Bitca, what you do in that situation is take the VHS out and exchange it with another, lamer and lower rated movie. Works every time.

I liked it, and I don't see any reason for such a low rating on IMDB, it could at lest be bumped up to 7.2/10. At least Larry Clark has the guts to show some reality. There is so much praise for James Woods performance, but I didn't think it was that great. On the other hand Melanie Griffith's performance was just captivating despite her supporting role. I liked it how they rarely used music to back up the dramatic scenes- the acting was so great it didn't even need it. I haven't seen any other Larry Clark fims yet, and now Ken Park is banned. Tell me is Another Day in Paradise the "tamest" Larry Clark movie?

reply

Hm the tamest Larry Clark movie, yea I would think so. I have yet to see Kids, but from reviews and postings it's pretty disturbing.
And Bully is very graphic in sex, and nudity (if you get the rated R version instead of the non rated they cut alot of these parts off.) There is alot more violence, blood, and drugs in ADIP than Bully.
Bully has the murder scene-the only scene that I can remember with blood- and they take acid, and pot. They don't shoot up, or snort anything like in this movie.

I think that because this film is probably Clark's least controversial, it missed out on some pretty valuable publicity - which is a real shame.

I loved this movie so much - The acting was amazing. James Woods, I think, was playing an exaggerated version of himself - I know he used a lot of improvisation rather than adhering strictly to the script. For me, Melanie Griffith's performance was the real shocker - I couldn't believe how good she was. She managed to capture this really sweet vulnerability without loosing the edgy toughness of her character. I have never seen her Oscar nominated work ('Working Girl', I think), but this movie left me believing that she was entirely capable of achieving such accolades. She was just brilliant.

I'm also surprised that no-one has mentioned Bobbie and Rosie; if I wasn't already madly in lust with Vincent Kartheiser, this film would have sealed it! He did a really great job with his charater, especially considering that he was 18 (I think?) at the time of shooting, and the role was nothing like anything else that he had done - I mean there was no cute polar bear in the movie for a start! Natasha Greggson Wagner was just adorable in the film, the chemistry between the younger actors, as well as Mel and Vincent really showed up on screen.

It is a total shame that this film didn't get the credit it deserved. For one thing, I think that this is evidence that Clark's films can create more than just 'controversy'. The actual editing, lighting and techie stuff were a little rustic, but in my opinion, this just added to the realism of the script. The soundtrack is AWESOME, as is the costuming and some of the sets. If people actually looked past the stigma associated with Clark's name, they would see a reasonably well-made film, a great ensemble cast and a well told story.

Unlike most of Clark's films, this film ended on a semi-positive note. It had the requiem 'Hollywood happy ending', but it worked. KIDS and Bully leave you shocked, with a kind of bitter taste in your mouth, but ADiP leaves you a little hopeful. You get the sex, drugs and rock n' roll of KIDS, the youthful naivety displayed in Bully, but you get a little hope for the future - the feeling that even if it isn't going to be OK, it might not be all bad either.

ADIP is one of my favorite movies and Bobbie/Rosie are one of my favorite on-screen couples! This movie is great - I showed it to my friend and he loved it, too:)

The book is so much more intense. Talk about hard core reality. Glad its not my reality!

I liked it quiet a lot, I think Bobby shows a good example of a real juvenile delinquent. In my opinion a few more sequels would be great, like I`ve said before they could concentrate more in the life of the young out-law Bobby and the juvenile delinquency in America of that age been the 70`s.

If any body thinks the same about the sequels please say so people,

peace.

I really liked this film, and would definitely like them to make a sequel, especially out of the second book, where it shows how Bobbie moves on and what happens to him.

I just watched this film last night. I thought it was terrific, but I do think its my least favorite out of Clarks films (that Ive seen...I have yet to see teenage caveman). James Woods is one of my favorite actors and his role in this film is perfect for him. I also like the girl who played Rosie. She was in High Fidelity and I kept expecting her to ask "Is this Stereolab?"

This film for me, is a cult classic. Not many have seen it but those who have usually like the film or at least REMEMBER the disturbing images included. I am not particularly a fan of James Woods or Melanie Griffih but they both turned in excellent performances here. Lou Diamond Phillips was great in his cameo role, as well. I had no idea the film was based on a book at all! I will have to check that out.
