Lou Diamond Phillips

I am curious why people are in movies like this, some what big actors like lou diamond phillips, and they don't get credited for being in it. does anyone know why? Is there some union thing that lets them pay less if they are not credited or what? I am sure there is some purpose for doing it, but I know not why.

because Lou Diamond Phillips is not a "some what big actor" I would put him in a similer catagory as Craig Scheffer (night breed, hellraiser:inferno, berserker)that being one of an actor who appears in some budget, but killer movies as a mostly ridiculous hero, but still essentially a poor actor.

Lou Diamond Phillips hasnt been an A-List actor for 20 years. If he was even one then. Larry Clark was probably so ashamed about putting him in the movie that he failed to include him in the credits. Hes a has been that never really was.

LDP is more of a B movie actor, he is good but was only A lister in the late 80's with La Bamba etc, all the same some B movie actors are better actors than many A listers.

I am sure LDP took the role without a credit, as he thought the director was great and its about the movie not about who gets credited where, after all they are making pictures not just paychecks in this sort of movie!

Larry Park is a great director, who shows it how it is, Raw and ungloved!

I really don't think LDP's stature as an actor had anything to do w/ him not being credited in this film. Actors who are much smaller than him were credited for being in this movie, so it obviously has nothing to do w/ his notoriety, or lack there of.

I don't really know why he's not credited. This is a fairly significant role. It's not just a cameo, or not some tiny little role that goes w/out credit. He appears in a couple of roles, and the character is a very memorable one - the type many actors would like a chance to portray. So, I've gotta think that the decision to not have him credted was one that LDP and his agent made. I dont' know why ? It doesn't make any sense to me. But I do know that a speaking role such as that doesn't go uncredited unless the actor agrees to it. It wouldn't just be a decision which would be made by the producers w/out LDP's consent.

I actually thought he did an amazing job with this role.

I too, found it strange that he wasn't credited, since it isn't a miniscule part. It was probably a conscious decision on his part. I would like to know why. The only thing I could think of is the role he plays, he might fear that it will offend some of his fan base. I'm not sure at all, though.

I also agree with the point that someone else here made. Phillips isn't a big movie star, and in my opinion, he never was. I think James Wood is a much bigger star than he. So I'm not sure what the point is, but I would think someone would be proud to be in this movie.

I definitely think it is one of the more "cinematic" films made by Larry Clark, although, probably not the best.

"I don't know about what happened. . . because once you start writing, it all becomes fiction."

There are numerous reasons an actor would appear in a film unbilled...possibly the actor was a last minute substitute for another actor originally cast in the role, or perhaps the actor or director don't want the audience to know the actor is in the movie until he appears, creating an element of surprise that might be pertinent to the character.

Bill Murray also likes to be uncredited sometimes...

I was just about to say that. Bill Murray did the same thing in ED WOOD, had a fairly substantial role & was not given a credit, as did Bruce Willis in PLANET TERROR. There are numerous times where big-name actors basically appear in cameos, sometimes to "help out" a movie once word gets around they had a small part in it, or maybe for the "surprise look who's here!" value. As for Lou not being a "big enough" actor, that's ridiculous. actors MUCH less famous than him were given credit (hey, the fat guy playing the security guard in the very beginning got a credit and who ever heard of him?).
I"m sure LDP agreed to do the part and not take a credit...but for what reason is anybody's guess. It could be that the part WAS originally for someone else and Lou filled in at the last minute but it was such a relatively small part and would have put him so far down the cast list that he just said "hey, I'd rather not even get a credit... and if the audience recognizes me in the film, cool!".

But that's just pure speculation on my part. Heck, maybe he is pals with the director and just offered his services as a nice gesture.
