Jeez, I wish I'd given this a chance as a kid...

Gotta say, Filmation really screwed up by trying to capitalize on the popular movie. What they should have done is kicked off the run of this series with a week-or-two rerun of the '70s live-action show, which (like every other kid my age) I didn't know existed until years later. In that pre-internet age, it would've given some much-needed context to my generation about how this aberration originated. I vividly remember the Filmation cartoon being on every afternoon but The Real Ghostbusters was better-written with better animation and cooler ghost-busting mechanics -- and so I perceived this one as a low-rent rip-off with an ape in place of Slimer. I seem to recall that being the consensus amongst classmates too.

That said, I started watching the show on Hulu yesterday and am generally impressed. It has all the hallmarks of Filmation (cheap animation, recycled stock footage, one-dimensional characters, etc.) but there is some impressive animation (I immediately remembered the gear-up segment, which was pretty awesome albeit ridiculously overused), the characters are likeable and the villains are all pretty cool. I think the ten year-old me missed out on a show he would've really loved simply because of the title.
