Didn't like Joseph Fiennes

A couple of things his casting bugged me:

1 - he just didn't look right, whenever he was shown, he always appeared to have a tiny head.
2 - I didn't see the chemistry that was supposed to be so strong between Dudley and Elizabeth.
3 - he just wasn't in the same acting category as Blanchett, Rush and Eccleston.

No, something always bugs me about him, too, although I do think his head was the right size?

I don't think his acting is up to par (no Tudor pun intended), unlike his brother Ray.

reply

He was ok, but i think his brother Ralph Fiennes would have been much better.

I liked Joseph Fiennes in this. He showed the right mixture of deceit and love...
... also didn't Elizabeth call him 'the Moor'? Joseph Fiennes has quite a Mediterranean look.

I thought he was very good, undeniably reminiscent though (but less comic), of his work in Shakespeare in Love, which came out the same year.🐭

I thought I was the only one that noticed his pin head. Huh. He got on my nerves in this movie too. I can't quite explain it, but I think it was the way he tried looking real sexy. He kept looking at the queen in an extremely sexual manner and wasn't discreet whatsoever. I guess that was it.

Just watched this film for the first time last night and totally agree.

I didn't like this character either. He annoyed me so much every time his character re-entered the story line. Internal dialogue: "I thought we were done with that guy! Why is he back?"

What I disliked about him was exactly what you said. He was so obviously, "Look at me, I'm so pretty and sexy and crazy about this red-headed chick!"

Cate Blanchett, on the other hand, was so luminously glorious, regal, and perfect in this film. Robert was so inadequate for Elizabeth that it was a big relief when she was finally able to part with her affection for him.

I like the actor, but this:

"he always appeared to have a tiny head"

LOL!

Maybe they should have poofed out his hair more...

So glad I'm not only one that hates Joseph Fiennes in this. I absolutely hated every scene he was in. I can't even explain why. He just rubs me the wrong way. He certainly didn't get his brothers charisma or natural acting ability.
