Who's seen this

I accidently videoed this one night, after something else, but never got to see the whole thing til later. It's ok I've seen better, but it was entertaining enough, and the vampires with wings were quite impressive the lighting was just subtle enough to make them look disturbing.

I have seen this and I thought it was allright. The part when the vampire turned into the huge bat was really cool, every time they showed the bat's point of view everything was kind of distorted and green. :)

I saw it. I liked it because it was bad. I thought it was deliciously corny.

Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask and he'll tell you the truth.

I enjoyed H.O.F. 1997 and actually taped it on purpose! (LOL!!) It had the hero, the vampire villain, the gal in distress (the lovely Terri Polo)and Frankenstein's monster! It was pretty cool, although I think that eventually, Universal will most definitely have to return to the Karloffian look of Frankenstein's creature! Seriously. In this film, he did not look as menacing or frightening as I thought he should have; He looked kind of like an elderly vagrant with a few bolts on his head. I also felt that he should have been physically larger. The vampire/bat creature actually looked a tad larger in stature. How tall is Peter Crombie? In any case, overall, it was indeed a rather entertaining film. it has some decent scary moments and the vampire's P.O.V. shots were decent, the acting was good and the film was well done. I would recommend it.

Oh, God, I hope not! I think we, as a culture, are starting to out grow that silliness. It worked for Karloff and Karloff is a great actor but I'd prefer a version closer to the novel. The long black hair, the tightly drawn skin, intelligent, well spoken, no flat head, no bolts. The novel deserves more respect than it has received in the last eighty or so years. The 2004 Hallmark mini-series version of Frankenstein was decent.

The creature didn't look anything like Karloff's version in the novel. The version in this film was meant to be closer to what Mary Shelley actually described. In the book he was intelligent and actually well spoken (not sure why they screwed that up). That's why he was in the North Pole, because the Shelley novel was meant to be his backstory.

I beg you, one day, read the book...

The Old one Was Better

I was 12 when I saw this, when it first aired and I remember thinking it was pretty cool. Mini-series were kind of a thing then. (merlin, that 10th kingdom thing? oh boy...) I wondered why they didn't re-air it. Probably cause it's rather long and the mini-series trend wore. It really wasn't that bad, well, for a 12 year old.

I videotaped this when it aired originally and love it! Over the years, I have watched it several times but ought to have viewed it even more, as I find it completely entertaining. I'm on old-time horror fan (heading on six decades), and it certainly improves on many others I've seen because it exhibits caring in the music, sets, makeup, costumes, and, of course acting. The direction is far beyond many horror films~old and new.

Since when does there have to be horrific, sickening, violent images for this to be considered a horror film? This harkens back to Universal's era of monster movies, when horror was more subdued. It's that style, not Hammer bloody horror (though even that studio released some that did not~ahem~hammer one over the head with gore and violence) or especially works of the Nineties, which have led to the many unpalatable films of the 21st century. This reminds me of "The Mummy" trilogy and "Van Helsing" style.

By the way, I switched over to Chiller for "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", but they're airing Part 2 of "HOF". It surprised me how I eased into watching it after not seeing it for at least two years. If anything, it's even better than I remember! Perhaps that's from seeing so many "blah" films in the meantime.

I saw this when I was 12, too! I thought it was fun and I'm always hunting hard for a means to get a copy of it. I was sad when I lost my copy due to the VHS tape getting broken :( I've been wanting to show it to my friends, because apparently I was the only who among them who had heard of the remake and not just the original. I must get another copy!

I saw this when it first aired in 1997. I recently bought a DVD-R of this from i-offer.com. It was replayed in early 2004 on the sci-fi channel as a promotion for the Van Helsing movie that opened that year.

I've bought from i-offer before, maybe I'll check there for a copy!

As did I and for me it was a bit of a letdown as the vampire wasn't Dracula and the werewolf wasn't the Wolf Man/Woman
Nice how our hero was able to have the Shewolf cured.

That bit about the vamps being fallen angels naaah.

That part was immensely stupid. That's not a vampire. That's a demon.
