One show I still miss even after 12 years...

What a show, i would always go into my work the next day and try to get people to watch the show or at least talk about it. This show and few others..Action, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, um.........Space Ghost Coast to Coast and well we could all go on. Anywayz, great show and i'm sure there's a few people that agree with me!

Would I rather be feared or loved? Um.. both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.

Why did MTV cancel it after just one season? Were the ratings really that horrible? I read on Wikipedia that they would often have to work 16 hour days on this show, maybe they didn't feel like they could keep that up another season.

It's been 17 years now! Why do I miss this show? The writing was excellent. The characters were fully developed (i.e. mostly playing themselves) and seemed like people I went to college with. The running jokes (Howard with a new hot girl every week, Quinton getting hassled for something he didn't do) were always funny. The direction was excellent and was a break from the three-camera sitcoms that prevailed on television at the time. I wonder if the style of Portlandia was influenced by it (yeah, probably not).

The reason why there wasn't another season is long and complicated. In short, the actors and writers did not feel like MTV was interested in a second season and they stopping trying to change the network's mind. The series creators claimed MTV did not behave professionally during negotiations. Remember, MTV was the network that removed the word "fire" from every Beavis and Butt-head episode just so they wouldn't have to win a frivolous lawsuit. They were very averse to anything with potential risk.

Unfortunately other cable channels were not interested in this kind of programming at the time.

A new person took over as head of programming at MTv. They cleaned house, so to speak, of shows they didn't create. They wanted to make "their" mark and show the direction they wanted to take the network. There was no reason it should've been cancelled. The ratings were great and the critical reviews were off the charts. Politics as usual. :-(
