The plot and characters seem very similiar to The Constant Gardner. I realize Waking The Dead was first though.

I have made this same observation. They are also both based on books.

You know apart from the fact that the women were idealists I don't see any similarities what so ever - not even plotwise.

Probably it has to be (but not related) because of the fact both women are gone in strange circumstances and the lovers are crazy trying to find the truth, to the point of becoming almost insane.

I think the key difference is that in Constant Gardner the lover is trying to find the truth, whereas in Waking the Dead the lover is trying to find her..

Both great movie with some of my favorite actors, Billy, Ralph, Jennifer, Rachel!

Oh yes, you're absolutely right! And the endings are different. I'm agree both are great movies.
