another question about the great ending scene

SPOILERS

it may sound strange, but do you think that Fielding was...dead in the closing speech scene?

i say that because we hear him doing a "summary" of his future life, about Sarah ("i never saw her again") and his politics career...the last image/frame of Fielding that we have is him starting a less troubled life BUT his inner monologue is the one from a man that has finished his career and probably his life (the inner monologue is in the past-it's over- but the final scene is in the present of the 80's)

Interesting! But he does say, "If it was only the you that I will carry with me, in my soul, until the day I die... "

reply

No. He's alive. And she's alive. The movie and the book are different. The movie never tells you. The book does. Sarah is alive.

^wouldn't go that far. But very sad, yes. House of Sand and Fog (also with Connely) is also gut-wrenching. Then Requiem For A Dream tops a lot of people's list too (not accidentally, also with Connely). My number one spot does go to 'Amores Perros'.

About the OP's claim, I don't think that's implied, especially b/c he says 'I will carry the love for her with me until the day I die' or something to that effect. But you are right in saying the inner monologue stems from a later part of his career.

...I am lost, I'm no guide, but I'm by your side...
