*spoilers** why did she do it?

Why do you think she killed herself? Or did Harry kill her?
Was it wish fulfillment? She finally got what she wanted so she checked out? Did he not "cum out clean" and she was afraid of an incest baby?
Second question, what are your thoughts on their relationship? What did she say to Iris that made her leave? I'd love to hear what you have to say, this was such a great movie. Norman Reddus was fantastic.

I don't think she was really there... it adds up better that way.

Yeah, I think she was. She humoured him before, why not then? She knew about his "affliction" even when he claimed he didn't have one.
Why do I think she wasn't there? I was kinda undecided until he got onto a bus with a body bag, lol... how is that possible? I think it was just another personality of his, which he eventually managed to kill off, and free himself of, before getting the courage to leave with Iris. I think his mother really was like that when she was around (which might even have been part of the movie, who knows?), which is why he was the way he was, and the guilt she left him with, how messed up she left him, meant that when he lost her she became one of his personalities... hence literally carrying her even when she was dead, as well (that made me wonder how free of her he was really going to be longterm, too). I can't remember the exact point that made me first go "Ahhhh" as it struck, but to me it all adds up =P

Wow, you've actually almost convinced me. I might have to watch it again but i remember the body-bag being so weird. That's pretty impossible to have nobody notice or say anything.
But what about when he kissed her at the dinner party? Or the secret the mom tells her? That's very convincing acting on Iris's part to have the eyeline correct and body language. Why would she pretend to have a secret if she could assume it would upset him?
What about Adrian Brody? He thanks her for eggs and I'm pretty sure she sets the plate down in front of him.
I ike your interpretation but i don't think it's what was intended. It could be like one of those theories like Farris Bueler is all in Cameron's head, Neo never woke up from the matrix. Not intended but makes for a better movie :P

I know he was a smaller character so it was easier to swallow, but everybody did all of that with Madden, too. They just played along. You also have to remember that we're seeing things through Harry eyes, in effect. Things like physically putting the plate down are difficult to explain, but that's just the way he sees it, and you don't know that anyone else did. Didn't Iris look at Harry when he was sat on the couch, even though he was really stood by her, being aggressive? That'd just be his interpretation, because to him "Harry" is somewhere else. It does also beg the question of why Iris brought Madden up, as though Harry would know, etc, but not the mother... but I suppose that could be because it was kind of the twist after the twist, and was supposed to be ambiguous. I'd have to watch it again to see if there's a particular point that stands out to me, but I also entertained the idea that the mum really was there until a certain point... then he just carried on "imagining" her to be there. Maybe even when he moved out? She did rather suddenly agree to it, which wasn't exactly her nature with Harry the rest of the time. Then again, that could be because she'd simply decided she'd go to the new place and make it just the same, like with the light lol.
I understand what you mean about it not being the intended interpretation, but I do think it was left deliberately amibguous and it was one that was suggested to us... mainly because of the body again. It's just not possible XD And it did the long shot on it... like "You see what we did there?" =P

I think Harry (with a little help from his alter-ego) killed her

I hadn't even thought of the theories on Harry killing her or her not even really being there. Were Harry and Kate together that way the whole time? They make it seem like only in the end before hanging herself like she couldn't handle what had happened between them. But earlier in the movie when he was released from the questioning and she was in mourning on the bed with the veil over her the man at the door before closing it gave a weird look when Harry went to her bedside as if something really disturbing was happening. Harry attacked Iris in Vargas office but later couldn't get it up with her in the car. Then has her wear the veil like Kate would and he is able to perform then. Maddens comment about getting it at home makes me feel like they were all along. So if they were all along why would she kill herself in the end?
