Maybe the makers have alot of family members who posted positive messages, but when this movie came out I was attending a HBCU, I understand supporting African American films, if theyre good. This movie made no sense at all. This was the first time I actually observed people leaving the movie theater demanding a refund. I tried to give it a chance but it never got better. It might have looked good as a screenplay but the message of the movie is unclear. It tried to ride the coattails of Soul Food but fell short, way short. After reading the reviews I thought maybe I should watch it again to see if I missed something, I cannot bear to think about watching this movie again. I love Babyface but hearing his song played 1000 times drove me nuts. BEWARE: Watch if you want to...I told you so.

This movie made sense. It just wasn't your average love story. The development wasn't laid all out there for us. It was a quirky, low budget love story. And it's very entertaining.

I couldn't agree with you more.

This movie makes me cringe just thinking about it: a mixture of being nauseous and suicidal.

Nauseous because the script, the plot (the male ego is the center of all things), the acting, and the messages ("light" is right) were just plain evil. Suicidal because I fear that too many people will choose to defend or ignore such negativity.

Soul Food is one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. Yeh, let's try and tackle every single issue facing African Americans in 2 hours. At least Cherot was following the rule of thumb for film makers, stick to what you know and tell a good story, and he did.

This is my favorite black oriented movie period. Then again, I like Woody Allen, Wes Anderson and Todd Solondz... I'm guessing that you don't. "Soul Food" was alright, but there was nothing compelling or novel about it. It was a cookie-cutter banal black movie full of black movie cliches. For all of its roughness, "Have Plenty" brought something new to black cinema. I just hope that I live long enough to see another black film that doesn't have that Toni Morrison/Tyler Perry stench on it.
