Isn't it funny when they show alcohol and tobacco consumption

For me, it kind of ruins the mood. Comments?

As a person from a culture capable of harnessing nuclear power, I have to say that I enjoy hitting the booze every bit as much as the first prehistoric human to ever imbibe an alcoholic beverage.
Also, as every prolific reader of science fiction knows, in the future nanites or genetically engineered symbiotic organsims will allow people to drink and smoke to their heart's content, enjoying all the pleasure and none of the ill effects of their recreational drugs.

People are never going to stop drinking. Smoking is still pretty popular too.

Movies on IMDB are not overrated, you're just of the minority that doesn't bloody LIKE THEM!

Isn't it funny how they DON'T show alcohol or tobacco consumption in most modern movies, despite the fact that the world is still full of people who drink and/or smoke?

Blade Runner is noir...smoking and booze are part of the package. You seriously think these vices won't exist in the future? Right...after thousands of years, humans are just gonna quit cold turkey, as a unified species...I'm sure. And Blade Runner takes place eight years from now...at this point, the flying cars are a real stretch, but you find alcohol and tobacco to be the "funny" part?

Okey-dokey then.

I really hate when they don't show people drinking or smoking in modern movies set in older times too.

Ridiculous - everyone has a right to drink or smoke what they like provided they do not bother anyone else. The tax smokers pay in the UK is three times what they cost the UK's national health service....they are supporting all the whining non-smokers haha.
