Who killed Marilyn?

Francesca buys a gun. Then she makes sure that Danny is out of the house on the day the murder occurs.

But then we see her in a car - and she gets the news of her mother's murder from a phone call. I'm always going to wonder who that was on the other end of the line. Was it the killer hired by Francesca? A neighbor? Nobody? Who?
