Editing ?

I got the feeling that possibly the film had been screened and was thought too depressing; then, the last 15 minutes was changed to be easier to stomach. The whole thrust of the film showed Al and wife to be somewhat mercenary and incompetent as parents, with the Waiting Couple as reasonable and good candidates for parenting. At the very end, though, Al began to look like a much better man and his wife acted like she wasn't comfortable unless she was pregnant. What do you think?
