ending

For a while I didn't understand the ending. But now I think I do.
Well clearly Rachel and her husband don't take the baby. They are seen leaving for their flight and leaving the empty carrier at the airport.
Wanda and Al don't take the baby either. Wanda wanted Al to believe that Rachel took the baby. Wanda felt badly and very guilty about the situation and Al wanted Rachel to take the record for the baby, but of course since they don't end up taking the baby, the record is useless in their possession.
The baby is abandoned by both parties ultimately. Seems to be the way the story was written, and honestly, it's so sad I don't think I've ever seen a sadder ending. Not just sad for the baby, but sad for both couples involved with the potential adoption.
