A Couple of disappointments.

I have watched this film a couple of times and enjoyed it.

I like genre films and think that there are certain things that should not be meddled with without some very major reason. Take the use of the Lewis Gun. I can cope with that because of the difficulty of finding the appropriate french light machine gun of the period.

However --

It was firmly established practise for FFL recruits to do their basic training in the Legion depot at Sidi-Bel-Abbes in Algeria, until the french lost control of Algeria in 1961. This movie had them doing it in Morocco. It was not essential for the plot to make it Morocco.

There was no attempt to re-create the FFL slow march, one of their iconic practices. They managed it OK in March or Die.
