How real of the tactics and weaponry?

It was said that real Cleverland SWAT officers were starring and providing technical advice in this straight-to-video movie. But questions raised after I watched it.

1) How large is it real with regard to the tactics used by HRT and SWAT in this movie? I don't see any reasonable tactics were used by them in the City Hall.

2) And the weaponry? The HRT sniper who made the lethal shot on his counterpart was not using a sniper rifle, was he?

From reading all the reviews here and on Amazon I got confused because the comments are so opposed to each other.

You know why? It was too damn hard.

Hi there -

Yes, Cleveland SWAT did advise and appear in the production phase of RENEGADE FORCE. For the development phase of the movie (research and script writing), technical and tactical accuracy were made possible by involvement from a municipal SWAT Team in the metro Los Angeles area.

To address the questions posed:

1) The methods employed by HRT and SWAT at the City Hall building are are tactically sound. The entire sequence of events for the City Hall sequence of the film was very thoroughly researched. The only real logic 'leap' in the City Hall building is when the SWAT Team rappels down to the first floor while firing their MP-5s - supressing the HRT. This is not something a municipal SWAT Team would be trained to do. Ever.

2) The HRT sniper is armed with an 'accurized' and scoped M-16A2. This weapon is approved as a 'close distance' sniper offensive weapon (primarily urban-type combat) by some metro SWAT units. If you watch the Airport Shootout scene closely, this is the same weapon the HRT overwatch/sniper team on the rooftop used there as well.

Hope this helps.

most of it is very close, closer than most movies out there. For the final city hall showdown some artistic freedom has been taken for the sake of entertainment and pacing.

lots of small details are correct in this movie, down to the sniper at the golf course even having to manually cycle the bolt on the M14 with his sub-sonic round. However that very same scene also has a big flaw, for entertainment purposes. they say the shot has been taken from about 2000 yards. Good luck doing that with an M14, much less an M14 with subsonic ammuniton on a moving target. but also when they point out the treeline it looks nothing like 2000 yards
