Why couldn't he get the higher command


As shown in the movie Mr. Vann was a great millitary officer and as we are told had potential so he could have become a full general. But because his mother had been prostitute then he was keept back. Is that true??

I'm a Republican, and thats my opinion on this matter.

Based on Sheehan's book, Vann was his own worst enemy. Being dogged by allegations of a penchant for girls not of legal age (I don't know if any allegations were ever proven but the book implied there may have been something to them) is what torpedoed his career. I believe his mother's occupation influenced him (inferiority complex?) more than it did the Army hierarchy.
