A buff skeleton?

Did they ever say how a living skeleton like Skeletor got a body like Franco Columbu?

It's never explained in the classic series, but attempts have been made over the years to, uh, flesh it out. In the 2002 animated series it's explained that Keldor had acid splashed on his face, thus the skull-head. According to Wikipedi, it's been furthur ret-conned thusly...

the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line, further character development was introduced. This line has offered more in depth origins to the Masters of the Universe characters and a collaboration of all origins in attempt to create a new coherent continuity. According to their revised back story, Keldor is Randor's half-brother. Keldor's mother was a member of the Gar race and he was ousted from the royal castle due to his Gar heritage. He roamed Eternia for knowledge, eventually learning the Dark Arts from Hordak. He then sought to unite Eternia by ruling it himself and battle his own half-brother with his army of fellow misfits. After losing the battle and desperate to survive, he turned to his mentor Hordak who merged Keldor with an entity known as the Demo-Man. Together they formed Skeletor

I'm glad that the original animated series had already wrapped up by the time they decided to pull a Darth Vader on Skeletor. He didn't need to be a family member of Prince Adam.

Honestly, I can scarcely think of a villain who would benefit less from being a relative of the hero's. Skeletor is the embodiment of evil. Adam was chosen to fight him because of his purity or whatever. They didn't need to be an uncle and nephew respectively.

I'm glad that they put effort into it, but it's just simply a bad idea in my opinion.
