Teela is an incredibly obnoxious character

Does anyone else notice that Teela is an incredibly obnoxious character?

Almost all of her lines consist of her whining about Adam being useless and/or whining about her father being too restrictive and/or whining about being underestimated because she is a woman. Because these patterns are 100% predicable, whenever I see Teela on-screen, I can virtually guarantee that in a moment or two she is going to start being annoying in one or more of those aforementioned ways.

I think maybe they shoehorned Teela into this show solely as a role model to appeal to viewers who were girls. But due to her whiny and inherently obnoxious nature, the Teela character really doesn't work and she doesn't fit into the dynamics of the show at all.

I absolutely can't stand the She-Ra show...but from what I remember, at least the She-Ra character wasn't anywhere near so whiny and obnoxious as Teela is...yet She-Ra was also designed to appeal to girls and be a role model for them.

So what's up with that?

Why did they design Teela to be so annoying, or fail to notice that they had mistakenly created an annoying character with Teela (and then correct for their mistake)?

I think Teela's relationship with Adam/He-Man was similar to Lois Lane's relationship with Clark Kent/Superman. Teela was critical of the wimpy Adam but she admired the heroic He-Man, unaware that they were the same person.

I see what you are saying. That's an interesting parallel, although I can see why it still doesn't work for the Teela character although it does for the Lois Lane character.

To wit, Adam never tries to get with Teela. In contrast, Clark Kent does try to get with Lois Lane, but she rejects him because he's a beta male.

Ergo, Clark Kent's attempts to get with Lois Lane justify her harsh reactions to him. That is to say, Clark Kent's own actions cause him to deserve the mean responses which he receives.

On the other hand, since Adam never asks Teela for anything, her harsh reactions to him are completely unjustified - Adam doesn't deserve them! - and so they just make Teela come off as vindictive and mean-spirited. And Teela also acts that way in general, not just in relation to Adam, whereas Lois Lane only acts that way when Clark Kent is trying to get with her. Thus Teela is far more obnoxious than Lois Lane.

As Captain of the Royal Guard, Teela was assigned to train Adam in combat and prepare him for the day he would become king. Since Adam often feigned lack of skill and interest in his duties, and disappeared whenever Eternia was threatened, she thought he was lazy and cowardly.

Then that creates another problem with the plot: why isn't Teela always telling off/whining about the current King of Eternia, a.k.a. Adam's father? Whenever Eternia is threatened, all he ever does is run into a closet or something and wait for He-Man and/or Man-at-Arms to come and save him.

In other words, the current King is even more cowardly and useless than is Adam, yet Teela lets the current King off scott-free, whereas she is constantly giving Adam the third degree. That makes Teela a hypocrite.

Yes, She-Ra and Teela were both SJW conspiracies! You're right! 
