shareHe-Man and the Masters of the Universe may have lasted only two seasons, but there were 130 episodes in total, which was more than most animated series at the time. Characters from He-Man continued to make guest appearances on She-Ra: Princess of Power and He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special after the original series ended.
I'm not sure why He-Man was discontinued. The series had become repetitive, but the introduction of the Evil Horde as new antagonists could have reinvigorated the show. Instead the Horde and other new characters from the Masters of the Universe toy line made their animated debut on She-Ra. Maybe Mattel didn't want to fund a third season of He-Man because they thought that reruns of He-Man and new episodes of She-Ra would be enough to promote the Masters of the Universe toys. Perhaps Filmation was focused on other projects. While other production companies outsourced animation work to foreign studios, Filmation's cartoons were almost entirely made in the USA (an exception being a Zorro series that was animated by the Japanese studio TMS). Besides She-Ra, Filmation was busy with the TV series Ghostbusters and BraveStarr and a few feature films after He-Man ended. However, Filmation faced declining revenues due to a glut of animated series on TV and the poor box office performance of its theatrical films. The Filmation studio closed in 1989.
