10 Worst He-Man Characters

As much as I loved He-Man growing up, let's be honest - some of the characters were a huge swing and a miss. Check out my list and let me know what you think:

Nicely done, Mark.

The character names in MOTU are a classic example of things that work brilliantly at the toy level, but don't work on a dramatic level. Monikers like Ninjor, Stinkor and Fisto are ridiculous, but they're certainly evocative and act as good "brandable" names that make the characters easy to distinguish in the kid's head while he's at the toy store or writing out his Christmas list for Santa (AKA easily confused Grandparents). But the instant you insert them into a dramatic situation the absurdity becomes Windex-clear.

I remember the MOTU re-boot from 10 years ago. It eschewed some of the cornier aspects of the Filmation series, but they were still stuck with those damn silly names. Thus a plot about the sovereignty of the various races of Eternia is undone the minute Man-At-Arms has to address "Lord Buzz-Off".

Great looking site you have there. I'll be definitely back

Clawful's right claw is bigger than his left because he's part crab. Some crabs have one claw that is much larger than the other.

I don't mind Mer-Man's name. There were mermen in mythology. I agree though that many of the Masters of the Universe characters have lame names that prevent them from being taken seriously. Gobots had the same problem. The writers working for Hasbro did a much better job coming up with names for the Transformers and G.I. Joe characters.

Thanks for the feedback, gentlemen. I agree that Mer-Man's name is the least of his issues. I can't get the fact out of my head that he looks like a Persian cat we used to have.

The "Lord Buzz-Off" comment gave me one of the best laughs I had all week!

The mold for Mer-Man was later re-used for the skunk-like Stinkor.

Does anyone else remember the title of the mini-comic that came with Stinkor? "Stench of evil". Funny.

Ha! It's been a long while since I last saw that. I have a bunch of those mini-comics up my attic somewhere, have to look for them sometime.

It's a good list, but Clawful has no business being on it. He's awesome.

"Stench of Evil" .

Given the character names, the possibilities for great mini-comic titles are endless.

"A Claw-ful of quarters"

"Fisto of fury"

"The Moss Man prophecy"

"Evil-Lyn's a Faker? What a dirty Hordak!"

"There's only one God, ma'am, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that."

Ninjor was also a character on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Dragonzord! Mastodon! Pterodactyl! Triceratops! Saber Toothed Tiger! Tyrannosaurus!

when I was a kid I thought Man-E-Faces was really cool

I never saw him on the show or met a kid who had the toy

I can't agree with that list, except for Merman. You did a good job pointing out why he is useless.

But I object to the list strongly since you put Orko on it. Orko is an amazing character. And he is also the show's anchor. He is friendly, likeable, relatable, and the proxy for kids who want to watch a character who is similar to themselves. And the voice actor did a perfect job with every single word.

Yes, his bumbling failed tricks get repetitive, but so do the habits of every single other character on the show! What's good for the goose is good for gander. If you wanna criticize based on repetitiveness, the only fair way is to criticize every character who does repetitive things, which is all of them.

In no way is Orko annoying (at least, no more annoying than, say, Adam/He-Man narrating the same story at the beginning of every single episode, followed by the repetition of the opening credits' transformation footage & dialogue every few minutes thereafter). In no way is Orko akin to Jar-Jar Binks.

My second strong objection is that Evil Lyn should definitely be on that list.

Evil Lyn is a sorceress who does the bidding of Skeletor, who is a more powerful sorcerer. So then, what the heck is the point of having Evil Lyn?! Skeletor might as well have done all of her tasks himself, and done a better job at them since he has the same abilities only better. Her function is redundant, her name is idiotic, her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. She is easily one of the very worst MOTU characters. She should probably be #1 on all lists of worst MOTU characters.

My third strong objection is that the king, Adam's father, should definitely be on that list. Actually I take back what I just said, he should be the #1 worst character, and Evil Lyn should be #2. I made another thread to explain why the king is a cowardly, useless hypocrite:

why all this hate for orko ? orko was sweet and kind, even though his tricks back fired on him, he was willing to try them again. i liked orko, he teaches you, if first you don't succeed, then try try again. he is a very good example of that, he shouldn't have been on the list, he is no way annoying.

reply

How can you have Orko on there? Come on, man.

reply

Spikor was pretty lame character.
