Is it a remake?

Is it a remake of Polanski's "Tess" (1979) pls?

I haven’t seen it, therefore I don’t know. But I guess it must be.

A remake is when the powers that be behind a production rely on an earlier version of a film. The director of this adaptation of "Tess Of The D'Urbervilles"
specifically stated in an interview that he did not rely on Roman Polanski's "Tess". "I avoided it," director Ian Sharp stated, "so I'd be free to do what I liked." Does that sound like a remake? It's another adaptation of the novel, just as the 2008 four-part BBC miniseries is. Most film versions based on classic novels that are produced again and again are adaptations of the novel upon which it was based, so they are not remakes. Just as the 2002 Masterpiece Theatre presentation of "Doctor Zhivago" was a new adaptation based on Boris Pasternak's novel, not a remake of the 1965 film.

Sorry if my post seemed a bit harsh, but it annoys me that some people can't tell the difference between a remake and a new adaptation.

Your answer could be “No, it is not”, as I’ve written that “I haven’t seen it, therefore I don’t know”.
All other is meaningless talkativeness. Thanks for the info, anyway.

In your original post, you stated that you thought it must be a remake, even though you haven't seen it. I just wanted to set you straight (and maybe I was too harsh in doing so).

You're welcome for the info, anyway.

Nope it's an adaptation of Hardy's novel, as was Polanski's film.
