'Shrek' as a term of abuse.

Isn't it funny that "Shrek" has become a form of insult for people who are deemed fat and ugly? I say that it's funny because the film Shrek overturns fairytale conventions about beauty and yet the name Shrek has been appropriated by some people as a term of abuse for those whom they deem ugly.

Shrek is yiddish for "terror"(from the German for "fear")

That's interesting, I've never heard that before, but it doesn't surprise me. It reminds me of the way a burger chain was opened called Wimpy, in reference to the Popeye cartoons, even though the cartoons were trying to make burger-eating seem unattractive by calling the burger-eating character "Wimpy."
