Vanilla Sky is better!
I may be alone but I thought the acting was better in Vanilla Sky but to me the main thing is the music was so much better in Vanilla sky. The music sets the mood for all movies.

Also don't forget much themes from VS that didn't exist in the original, like the vanilla sky itself or that cover from Bob Dylan album. It's been a while since I've seen the original, maybe there was something like that in it too, but to me VS is much more well thought-out movie. People are blindfolded by remake cliché, hatred towards Hollywood, antipathy to Tom Cruise and many other stupid crap that makes them biased. If they would take a look at VS with clear eyes, they'll see one has a great amount of reasons to like this movie.

shareI think a lot of things really work in favor of Vanilla Sky. For one thing, the hero's age being thirty makes a real difference. At twenty-five, this spoiled, rich guy wouldn't have been ready for a relationship: Sofia would have been just another babe.
shareVanilla Sky is a better film and I also loved the music, mood, atmosphere, acting and narrative a lot more than Abre Los Ojos. I still really enjoyed ALO but I found VS to be the better of the two.

Wow, the OP thought he would be alone in prefering "Vanilla Sky" and it turns out that I'm alone in prefering "Abre Los Ojos". Weird.

i thought both films were great for different reasons. vanilla sky is certainly a lot more polished.
I liked Vanilla Sky better too. It was more polished. With the same story, and in English, I just liked Vanilla Sky better. But props to ALO for the original story.

I thought the remake destroyed the original but I think that should be expected from all remakes. If only every remake was as good as this one.
