I have a vhs copy of the feature film version, which is not as good as the tv series. I also managed to copy about 6 episodes when it was broadcast on PBS year s and years ago in Rochester, NY. However, I didn't get my favorite episode, the Lysistrata one, as I had no blank tape available at the time. I notice there is one copy of a PAL VHS listed on Amazon and they're asking $410
for it! If you have the means of transferring my VHS tapes to dvd I would consider sending them to you provided you make a copy for me as well. ???
Anyone else out there who may have the Lysistrata episode please get in on this, too!

Not to worry, in the UK all of it has been released on DVD, in at least two different editions (with the possible exception of the 1991 sequel).

I got a copy on ebay and it looks good except for a few glitches that we have to accept because it's almost 40 years old.
Don't think there's a region 1 version, so you'd have to do something about making it region free, it's not impossible.

Not meaning to brag, I got the two series on DVDs, very good! I love Frankie Howerd. Just heard 'It's bitter out' for the first time, squealed my head off! HMV people!

"You know you're in love when you can't put into words how they make you feel."

I've never seen the series out on DVD in the UK, was it a limited HMV exclusive or something?

It's available as part of THE FRANKIE HOWERD COLLECTION (BBC UK R2 DVD BOXSET), it includes all the BBC Up Pompeii episodes plus 'Then Churchill Said To Me' and 'The Best Of Frankie Howerd'. Highly recommended!
