Question

Is this movie as terrible as everyone says it is?

reply

If you want to see it that badly, find it as cheap as possible. I found the R Rated on VHS for $1, and that was enough.

I've seen almost all the early 1980s slashers and this one is definitely at the bottom. It's all so amateurish. It was only filmed in 2 weeks by first time director who was about 22, so that should tell you something.

There's really no "splatter". Some blood that looks like paint, etc. The whole proceedings seem so nihilistic, mysogynistic that it's hard to enjoy. One girl is stabbed in her car and thrown into a dumpster.

I can honestly say there's just no style or energy. No inventive music or camerawork. Really routine and uninteresting.

Thanks for letting me know. Now I won't be watching it.

Doesn't tell me anything, I've seen films by 'seasoned' directors that were worse than Splatter University.

No. It's even worse.

Imagine the worst movie ever made, and multiple it by ten. The acting is terrible and the directing and cutting make no sense. And that's the good news.

You know how some movies are so bad, they are good? Worth a laugh or two? Not this one. This is just jaw-droppingly bad. The longest 80 minutes of my life.

You should never not see a movie just beecause someone told you it sucks. If i were to take the advice of Siskel and Ebert, I'd would have never watched any slasher films. Is it a bad made movie? Yes, it is, but that doesnt mean you can't enjoy it. Most of us don't, haha, but hey, everyone is different, check it out for yourself

yeah, you make a very good point. I go online a lot to find out information about movies, I read reviews to find out the plot, however, I have to watch it for myself to find out if I like it or not, it's the only way. I'm sure there are a lot of fans of Splatter University, I'm still going to keep it in my collection, but it's not one I'll spend a lot of time watching. It has a few minor merits.

I completely disagree, there is far far worse acting out there in slasher flicks- Terror at Tenkiller, The Last Slumber Party. Not even close to "jaw-droppingly bad"- that belongs to films like The Brainsucker and Night of Horror. There are far worse slasher films out there than this.

when it comes to all the elements that make up a good film, this one ain't got it!! its bad in every conceivable way!! the script, the acting, the directing.......terrible! however, i'm a fan of bad movies like this. they're hysterical!! i bought a vhs copy of it at a flea market. just the cover alone had me rolling!!

reply

When I first bought it and watched it I thought it was just terrible and that I would never watch it again but would always keep in my collection as I am a completest. However this past Sunday, hungover and bored I decided to pop it in for some reason and I rather enjoyed it the second time around. It's still a horrible movie, but I couldn't help but laugh and be entertained. There is NO direction whatsoever so it can feel a bit slow at times but there's enough cheesy music and dialogue to keep you watching. Also more blood/gore than I remembered from the first viewing. I just really love these old slasher movies. I love horror in general, and that includes the really bad stuff because it can be fun. There are those few movies though that aren't even fun to watch but I would not put this one in that category. Someone mentioned before watching it when you are loaded and I would say that is a swell recommendation!

As a horror movie it was pretty bad but it waqs very funny. Sooo..if you like So Bad Its Good movies or really cheesy 80s movies you should rent it. If you drink you should get a case of beer and watch it. I watched it sober and still enjoyed myself. Had I watched it with my best frined and beer I woulda had a ball!

If I ever came across SPLATTER UNIVERSITY really cheap id buy a copy. Its really a They-Dont-Make-Em-Like-this-Anymore 80s throwback. The clothes and hairdos are laughable and the hoirny teens drinking beer and trying toi get action are funny in a scummy kind of way and scummy in a funny kind of way.

Well, I "enjoyed" it!

My honest opinion?

It was not that bad at all. I can think of many slasher films that have a weaker story, writing, acting and direction than Splatter University. Does it sit with the big dogs? No. But it has a handful of bloody killings, it at least has a few shots per scene as opposed to a full view for 5 minutes, and there are characters you care about. It knocks off the meaningful people, and actually delivers a VERY unheard of final death in the early genre. It's colorful. Is it easy to love? Not really, but it's truly nothing below average, unless you're talking about the ability to hear what some people are saying. Much better than Blood Cult and Last Slumber Party, etc... terribly over-hated.

I've seen Splatter University about 6 times. It's never failed to entertain me. Sure it's lousy in areas but it's not supposed to be movie making art. It's there to entertain you. It does just that.
Underrated!

Maybe you should watch it and make up your own decision instead of letting other people tell you what to think.
