Before you criticize to harshly, I would reccomend reading the book. It makes it a lot easier to visualize, and to appreciate the irony.

reply

Just watching the movie (never having read the book), my first reaction to Ashley Judd's being bopped on the head was to laugh. It was the "irony of ironies"-- which IS used in a lot of humor...

Thanks for clarifying. You're right. Ian (Smith) is a Dwarf or LP.

I didn't read the book before watching the movie, but I did cry on the screen of mom dyeing w/ the best friend hitting the ball for the 1st time hitting it. He may be small but who says he isn't powerful? I cried thru out almost all the movie after the little guy hit his mother w/ the baseball. Very good movie and I reccomend it to anyone who likes a movie which could be a true story. This could be based on a true story. Why couldn't it be, if anyone has anything to say about it? God bless all and anyone who don't believe, watch and see how it could be true?!! *smiles*

reply

I did, I mean, wouldn't you cry if your mom died at that age? To roxychick 71. he didn't mean to kill Joe's mom, remember, he thought that she was so sexy that he forgot he was someone's mother!

reply

Oh man I pissed myself laughing at that bit! Odd job watch out, your role of midget assassin extraordinaire is under threat from Simon "mother killer" Birch. Genius

reply

it worked in the book because you could imagine it and it was ironic. but sadly, in the movies... it's hard to picture.

reply

I bawled =(

Nice spoiler in the title idiot.

reply

It's not a spoiler, the guy said in the first few minutes of the movie that Simon killed his mother.

Of course I cried, It was heartwrenching he killed not only his best friends mom but a woman who was more like a mom to him than his own mom.

reply

it was sad, and just not believable at least the way it happened...

reply

She should have been stunned, then staggered wildly into the streets, only to be flattened by a bus. that would have been plausible.

reply

I always cry when Simon is on the bridge saying sorry.

Yes, definitely.

The way she died is so stupid. I mean...come on! I've been hit in the head with baseballs/softballs and I never fell down and died! She was hit in her temple and that is the hardest place to bruise--let alone kill someone. If the baseball was hit by...say Barry Bonds (especially if he's on steroids at the time) I would totally believe that a person might die from being hit in the head. But the ball was hit by tiny Simon Birch--a 3 foot something LP. I understand that it is better explained in the book, but seriously...hit in the head by a baseball? Who's the author of the book?

How long till this goes away?

reply

no but i cried when Simon died....I saw this movie for the first time yesterday and I love it lol....

reply

I kinda shed a half a tear when she was hit and died, but I did more so when Simon cried after, along with another thing or two in the movie. But I was mainly in supreme aw at how gorgeous Ms. Wenteworth looked lying there, even in death. God, Ashley Judd is...Wow! And I don't care how bad the two boys, or the extra people around town felt, I know Ben was a sad mothaf___, to lose all that good yum-yum.

I mean, let's be for real. The only reason Ben was there for for Joe afterwards was to keep his mind occupied, in order that he wouldn't end up killing Simon for f__in' up.

I laughed so hard, I cried!

only to find out she was in the movie! I was like ojsfkidsnfj
