Norton's Favourite Film

Did anybody else know that Edward Norton said "[He Got Game] is my favourite film of the last 20 years?

Norton must not have seen many films or he must have poor taste.

Where do you come up with such weird insults unless you yourself have f**cked a knife.

I think your already f**cked in the brain if you think "He Got Game" isn't a cliche-ridden wannabe be ghetto film that Spike Lee thinks has some redeeming simply because there is no other successful black director. You're just an Edward Norton c**ksucker who himself sucks off Spike Lee.

You say, "There are a lot of great black directors" and then you name one hack; well, of course, then you've proved your point.

Your the one who said someone should screw a knife, you degenerate weirdo--maybe you should calm down.

"He Got Game" is a hackneyed film that hasn't made much money when it was released in theaters nor when it has it developed a cult following; it's hackneyed drivel that Spike Lee has made before and continues to make.

The only moron who thinks it's great is you and Edward Norton.

Maybe the best song ever though.

reply

That would make sense, the guy has problems. This movie was horrible.

reply

That is Norton's opinion, and he is entitled to it. He loves basketball and is also a huge fan of Spike, so there is a good reason that it's his favorite.

reply

You're a moron if you judge movies on how much money it makes in the box office.

reply

Norton is on to something.

What exactly was wrong with this movie? Ray Allen wasn't a great in the role, but who in Hollywood has hops?

reply

There are alot of idiotic comments made on this thread...

First off, there is plenty of reasons why "He Got Game" is an incredible film. The movie balances social criticism, social realism, and a non-corny drama that is relevant to anybody who wishes to help others succeed. (which Hollywood seems to have a hard-on for) The acting is very good, with maybe an exception Ray Allen. (I thought he did okay, but whatever) Denzel plays a father who is determined to make his son the greatest basketball player of all time, and does an excellent job fulfilling this role. The father-son story played really well to the bigger picture. Jesus hates his father for the murder of his mother, but he realizes in the end, that after the extremely corrupt system of greed that is the basketball recruiting process, his father is the only one that he can see eye-to-eye with.

I understand that not everybody likes Spike Lee, but these ridiculous, unmerited, comments are just offensive. First off, he's clearly not the only 'successful' black director. (successful, btw, does NOT mean good) If you really need me to name people, let me see that you are just ignorant, but just for the record, some names that come to mind are John Singleton, Tim Story, the Hughes brothers, Reginald Hudlin, Julie Dash, etc.

Let me say this. Spike Lee is one of the last great American independent auteurs, period. Just because your opinion conflicts with Spike Lee's opinion does not make him a bad filmmaker. Spike Lee's characters have a sense of realism that is rarely seen in modern cinema. The emotional response out of people after seeing "Crooklyn" is nothing like I've seen from Hollywood's cookie cutter 'dramas.' "Do The Right Thing" evokes some of the such sincere dialog on race that I am stunned at people's positive reception "Crash." Sure, it didn't win any awards. "Clockers" brought forward the complications and nuance within the war on drugs and street crime that was clearly not on Hollywood's radar at the time. Sure, Spike Lee isn't a frequent nominee at the Oscars, but Spike Lee doesn't make films for awards, he makes films for people. While all these Kubrick-wannabes are busy trying to state symbolism in some random shot and getting inspiration from their Netflix account, Spike Lee gets his inspiration from the American people.

amazing movie. its about capitalism , not basketball.

reply

I like the movie, actually. But I'm also a basketball fan, so I would. But it has some serious flaws...and Spike has become a bit conceited (a BIT).

reply

This.
I don't like much Basketball but "He Got Game" is in my top10 hands down as "25th Hour" btw.
And i'm not black neither.

This is my best friend's favorite movie too, and it's in my top 25 of movies i've seen(Best Sports Movie). It's all about how you relate to it, but i think regardless it's a great film.

I don't know about being the best film of the last twenty five years, but that's a matter of personal opinion. It's definitely a fantastic film.
