spike either ripped off hoop dreams in alot of scenes and situations or he just homaged alot of it but it doesnt really make sense since hoop dreams came out only a couple years before he got game

How does Spike rip off Hoop Dreams when Hoop Dreams was a documentary? Plu name one scene in Hoop Dreams that's copied in He Got Game. Some black guys playing basketball doesn't count lol. And Hoop Dreams didn't "come out only a couple yrs before He Got Game", more like 4 yrs bro.

i haven't seen hoop dreams for awhile now but off the top of my head when the father (an ex crack addict) is playing his son and making it rain and talking trash and the son wins, very similar

If you remember Hoop Dreams, Spike was actually in the movie. At the Nike basketball camp that Gates were at, he spoke to them how the coaches and schools are interested in them to increase business, popularity and revenue with their own programs. No, he doesn't rip off the movie. Its more of an homage or ode to the documentary, translated to the big screen.
