Magical, Mystical Negro

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_Negro

Spike Lee was one of the first to point this out, and he must dislike the trope so much, that in all of his movies, he goes the opposite way, and virtually all white folk are scheming, conniving, and foreboding...and this is coming from a white guy who likes most of his movies, but these are the facts.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

He turned the tables, thats for sure. Im a HUGE Spike Lee fan, i think he gets a ton of crap but i agree, this is not a secret. Spike has stated his hatred for how Minorities, especially Black Folks, have been portrayed in Cinema. They were always the Drug Dealers, the Pimps, the Robbers, Rapists etc... He uses his voice to show the other side. I dont get upset as alot of White Folks do, almost every interview he gives he's laughing... I think he's taken too seriously by the public because of his strong POV... At the same time, its also why tons of great actors have worked with him. His talent is unique

Not all the facts.Virtually all the black folk in this movie are scheming, conniving, and foreboding as well

Your statement does nothing to counter my point. All the white folk in this movie, and all Spike's movies, are portrayed as the devil.

Plus it isn't true.

Jake scheming, conniving and foreboding? - NO
Jesus - NO
Mary - NO
Lala - YES
Booger - NO
Spivey - YES
Uncle Bubba - YES
Aunt Sally - NO
Big Time Willie - YES and NO
Martha - NO

Yes it does counter your point. If your point is that something is negative when everything is negative then you have no point. You have a truism then, but no point. Literally a pointless truism.

And yes it is true. You said "virtually" meaning not everyone. And I see your list desperately includes tons of minor characters who didn't even have any opportunity to be bad.

Jesus no? Did you miss the parts where he cheated on his woman? Yeah such a nice good guy.
Jake NO??? Huh? Did you miss the plot?

Such a movie does not exist, so everything after that is just blather.

Jesus was a teenager who took care of his little sister, wanted to go to the right college, for the right reasons, wasn't looking to just cash in, refused agent money under the table, and banged chicks on a recruting visit, "cheating" on his conniving, golddigging girlfriend who was cheating on him.

Spike didn't inadvertently name him "Jesus", and his sister Mary, dontcha know.

Such movies do exist, so maybe you should read everything after that again.

Jesus cheated on his girlfriend which makes him an *beep* Maybe Spike named him after Jesus because that guy wasn't a perfectly nice guy either, dontcha know.

I'm not really sure what that is supposed to mean, but i'm not sure you understood his point. You cannot differentiate something from something else based on a feature they both share. In other words, you can't single out all of his white characters by saying they are flawed if all of his characters are flawed in some way. Remember The Incredibles? "If every one's a superhero, then no one is."

Not to mention, how can you say that about this movie when so many black characters are themselves obviously so flawed, the dad is an abusive drunk who killed his wife and serves a sentence, the girlfriend is a liar and a cheater, the uncle is an opportunistic money-grabbing sycophant, the pimp is the typical violent misogynist, the black dude in the red car was also a conniving opportunist and so was D'Andre, so really, what's your point?

Your point is to say that since some of the white characters happen to have flaws too, this is racism. It's absurd. And kinda racist.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefsī²
