shareLooks sweet, but really dangerous - especially after finishing the film.
shareThis film is a bad reflection on Malaysia. It was filmed in Thailand and there are no go-go bars like this anywhere I've seen in Malaysia. Penang island is a very cultural place; non-touristy. If you love culture then take a look. Its cheap and a lot of variety with people and cultures. I enjoy every time I visit and plan on living there in the next few years temporarily. Malaysia isn't dangerous! Oh and Penang prison looks NOTHING like is shown in the film from the outside. The prison shown is an American prison somewhere.
shareThe inside prison they used is from Philadelphia. It's called Eastside prison or something and it's been shut down for over 100 years - very inhumane. I thought this prison looked familiar when watching the film, turns out I had been there back in high school.

Added to which, hbdale, Eastern State Penitentiary is famous for being haunted. I worked on the videogame "The Suffering" and we even included a special DVD extra on the game disc chronicling Easterns' supernatural history.
The first time I saw Return to Paradise, I immediately recognized the prison as being Eastern State. It kinda took me out of the moment, but ultimately didn't impede me from enjoying a very well-crafted and engaging film.
For what it's worth.
great... mindblowing. insanely vivid. exotic. to put it into a nutshell - it has everything.
