OMG!! Where was Joaquin's Oscar nom? *SPOILERS*

I cannot believe that Joaquin did not get at least a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for this! When "Lewis" goes to be hanged and the police are dragging him down the hall, while "Lewis" is screaming for his life. WHOA! Heartbreaking and sad, but WONDERFUL acting from Joaquin. He made is so real and it did not seem fake, he gave true emotion.

I was so very impressed by Joaquin's performance and I love this film!

"I love acting. It makes me feel good."-Joaquin Phoenix

reply

He's definitely the biggest scene stealer out there. Was there any need for Anne Heche and Vince Vaughn? haha, kidding.

Seriously, he was amazing. It's terrible watching it because he is so convincing. Your heart really breaks for Lewis, mine certainly did.

reply

Joaquin's performance here was almost scary...so realistic it hurt. That movie is really hard to watch, I was skipping some parts, to be honest, just could not take them, especially that I knew what was going to happen.

reply

i read he had to convince his sister that he was just acting.

Give Joaquin his Oscar already, dammit

reply

Joaquins brilliant in everything i've seen him in, I can't believe he didn't win the best actor oscar this year for his performance in Walk The Line, he was fantastic in this film, I don't normally cry when watching movies well there are a few exceptions of course but the end of this film was so heartbreaking and devastating and sad to me, his performance was so real it was like you were actually there watching this happen like it was real it certainly rocked me to the core thats for sure.
Its about time people sat up and took notice of him especially the people who vote and nominate for the oscars and other awards I can't think of anyone more deserving of an oscar at this point, his brilliant, I love him to bits!!!

God sent us an angel from the heavens above and called him Wentworth Miller

reply

I agree he could possibly the best actor of my time at least, with the exception of Depp maybe, but every film he's been in was just remarkable.

reply

His day will come, I'm sure of it. I agree with all of you that he should have been nominated for this performance.

His performance was chilling. It stayed with me and bothered me all night. I even had a dream about it--it was very sad and disturbing to watch--especially when Vaughn visits him in the cell.

reply

I cried; I honestly cried during that scene!! He was phenomenal! Your heart goes out to his character in the movie and it really seems as though he does indeed die. Great performance though, wow!

reply

Hard to believe this movie continues to remain in relative obscurity.
Joaquin Phoenix is an extraordinary actor, and this was never more evident than in the last scene...Gutwrenching! The guy is truly blessed and always delivers, regardless of the role. He plays that tormented role to perfection, and I wonder how much of that stems from his actual life. I wish his brother were still around to move us all as he did in Stand By Me.

reply

what about Vince Vaughn (Joquin is ok but he is not much in the movie and that's a role that is easily playey) -
I was totally floored.
He really managed to show us that man, he made himself so believable.
And Anne Heche was great too. I was extremely impressed by those two actors.
I never heard of them before! And then I totally fall into that movie experience, it was pretty much like a revelation. You know there are movies so good that manage to contribute a new perspective you can look at at events and personailites, it is like learning, and seldomly a movie, such a enclosed piece of fiction, manages to transcend its fictional status and somehow contribute to your real life. and that movie did. kudos to the actors.
btw, joaquin has a brother?
no don't say it - River Phoenix?

I recall also being disappointed when Joaquin wasn't nominated for an oscar, but I wasn't suprised. A film has to be either popular or have alot of political support in Hollywood.

reply

I completely agree. Polygram Studios, who isn't even around anymore, should have put a great deal more money into pushing this movie on its acting strengths. Joaquin should have definitely been nominated, and maybe even won, the Oscar for best supporting actor.

reply

Joaquin wasn't shown as much as the other main characters, but his performance out-shone everyone, he's an amazing actor! His last scenes were so emotional and powerful! He had me in tears!

Love + Peace
