Vince can clearly act very well, so why does he make so many crap movies

I don't get it!

Also, does anyone know of any movies he DOES act properly in other than this one?

CLAY PIGEONS
It's his best performance, hands down.

On your recommendation, I watched 'Clay Pigeons' and I have to say that I didn't like it at all, nor did I rate Vaughn's performance on anywhere near the same level as Return to Paradise.

Each to his own.

Loved Clay Pigeons. I watched for Joaquin Phoenix's performance.

I am not a great fan of Vaughn. I want to like him, but he doesn't usually play characters that I want to see. He doesn't seem to respect himself as an actor.

Of the films I've seen him in, this one stands out.

I just thought it was a completely far-fetched story related by means of totally incredible performances. Vaughn especially failed in my eyes to project any real menace that would likely befit a serial killer.

Anyway, if anyone is aware of Vaughn in any other serious roles of note, please let me know.

Cheers

Some of the most notorious serial killers were charming.
Ted Bundy is one of the most famous nice guys with very bad intentions.

I am a HUGE fan of Clay Pigeons but that performance shouldn't be mentioned in the same vein as Return to Paradise. Vaughn in Clay Pigeons was charming and fun but completely over-the-top. I hate that you went in with the wrong idea because it really is a very cool little movie. I would suggest revisiting it at some point. Now that you know what to expect you might enjoy it.

I think he's pretty good in The Cell, Thumbsucker, and A Cool Dry Place. But I completely agree with you about most of his movies being crap, and I find him very irritating these days.

A rare occurance....this is exactly what I've always thought about this guy. I liked him a lot in Return to Paradise....best role hands down I've ever seen him in.

Although I thought he was OK in Clay Pidgeons too. Although I doubt any of the serial killers of the past or in mid career now had a personality like "Lester" who he played in that, actually he was a sort of funny serial killer.

It is a little spooky to realize the number of serial killers plying their trade in the world at any given time. I think the FBI gave an estimate of how many of them are out there at any given time....and it isn't in single digits.

Maybe Vaughn just likes to do buddy/romantic comedies. Although I don't think any of the movies of that sort that I saw him in were any good (although I haven't seen many).

He's a very lucky guy to even have that choice & get paid so much.

Bottom Line - I totally agree with you.

Vaughn was great in A Cool Dry Place

Most people would probably say Return to Paradise is his best role. But Clay Pigeons was good, and nobody has mentioned another one of his movies I liked, Domestic Disturbance. He was a good villain and dramatic actor before he decided to become a clown instead.

He also played a serious role im the widely-panned Psycho remake, the second of two 1998 films he did with Anne Heche.

Maybe the dramatic roles just don't come his way very often. In many instances actors have to actually audition for roles. Some can pick and chose parts (A-list). Others have to get out there and hustle for it (well, their agents do). It's possible that he has auditioned for more dramatic roles and was turned down. He was hot in the late 90/early 2000 which is precisely when he did get those more well-rounded roles.

I thought he was perfect in Swingers. He was probably just being himself, but hey, he did a great job.

I always kind of liked him, the odd part is he kind of surrounds himself with artistic actors. But as for the crap he makes, you can in my opinion tell it is not him. Same with Wilson brothers, which are his buds, they can make really good stuff but complete crap too. Put him in a FBI suit kind of role drama, or end of the world non comedy --would be good big budget or of course indies!! Buddie Joaquin is great for that, always admire indies, so painful but wonderful. The only other thing is he has that Jason Segel ness, tall, trying the cute goofy teddy bear thing...my opinion not cute. Cut the pay and do great roles. Saddle up with some art house named directors, now l can appreciate that. Hey if he can slap it up pull a Lost in Translation thing he might hit Bill Murray status.

VV also doesn't look like what he did 15 years ago anymore either, this guy let loose and gained so much weight it's like he doesn't care at all about his appearance or roles, now stuck doing crappy movies just to make money, not trying to won an oscar.
