The book

I saw much of this movie on Hallmark & enjoyed it -- the leads, including Elizabeth McGovern (who I wish I get to see more of), all did a good job.

So, I went and read the book. The author actually is in the peach business, so the book has an autobiographical flavor on that end. The white stepmother part is from her imagination though. You can see the various people in the movie, up to a part, being in the book.

The book however is different from the movie in various respects, particularly the "ghost" aspect shown in the movie, which is treated as a minor part in the book, and not as literally. The book also is purely in the p.o.v. of Clover and has some flashbacks throughout where she remembers various things about her father ... the sort of thing that works better in a book.

But, both the movie and book has their own charms.
