Why did Mr. Rose do it?

I mean, he was such a nice guy---at least I thought so! What would make him do such a thing to his daughter if he "loved" her so much? And how could the other workers just sit back and act like nothing happened?! I mean, I know Muddy gave her the knife and everything, but I hated that even after everybody found out, they were all like "Oh well, so sad" and just ignored it, like it didn't even exist. This really irked me. Otherwise, it was a pretty good film.

I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior.

What Mr. Rose did to his daughter is not your business, unless you happen to be in the knife business.

I'm sure he did love his daughter very much, and you can tell by the end how much he regrets it. People sometimes do horrible things to people they supposedly love.
I can't explain why some fathers rape their own daughters, because I truly can't understand it myself. My only explanation is that he was unmarried, maybe hadn't had a woman in a long time and started feeling sexually attracted to his daughter. That is no excuse, of course, like I said, I can't explain the mind of a father that committs incest with his daughter. I am a woman with a very close and good relationship with my dad, and never in a million years could I imagine him ever looking at me that way. I felt so bad for Rose Rose because the pain she must have felt when she ran off is something I wouldn't wish for any girl. And especially to know that the last thing she did before leaving was stabbing her own father and leaving him to die... What a tragedy.

As for the other workers letting it happen... well, again, there is no excuse but I suppose they were just too afraid to intervene. Mr Rose was pretty much their supervisor, they didn't want to risk their jobs. Also, Mr Rose was very clear that this was just between him and his daughter and could have become violent towards anyone that tried to butt in. One of the workers, Jack, didn't show up the next season together with everyone else, and although we don't get any proper explanation, my best guess is that he DID try to intervene and so had to suffer repurcussions. When asked where Jack is Mr Rose says 'Jack didn't know what his business was' and I took that as 'Jack didn't know to mind his own business so I booted him out of the work team'.

Also, one more thing: it's possible that the workers had lead pretty tough lives and seen it all. Maybe they weren't all that phased about what had happened between Mr Rose and his daughter.

The whole incest rape thing in the movie is what make me hate this *beep* so much!

A lot of seemingly nice guys turn out to be capable of doing horrible things.
in fact. I'm not sure if I'm putting too much meaning to it. But on an earlier scene when Mr.Rose says "Nobody goes to jail for cutting a persons clothes off" and he looks at Rose and says "isn't that right?" And she looked uncomfortable. I feel like it was an implication that he had done something like that before.
And honestly he didn't seem like that nice of a guy to me. He was manipulative and overbearing. The only reason we think he's a 'nice guy' is because he's kind to Homer. A person can be kind to others and still be a monster.
