I thought it was ingenious the way he kept Homer out of the war. Homer would definitely have left to serve and this was the only way Dr. Larch could keep him safe. Deceptive but kind.

At the end the nurse tells him that it was Fuzzy's heart. It was just a trick to avoid Homer going to war.

I was surprised they could not tell it was a kid's heart.
