Was the Club 40 a real place?
If it is, where is it and is it still around?
I doubt it is a real place because the movie needed a place which adam could fit into and which would make eve jelouse in some way.

I wish... *sigh*
I love places like that... but sadly, they don't really exist anymore. There might be a few dance clubs in places like New York and California but they are that type.
I'm a throwback, I wish we did still have places like that these days... like Ricky's club in I Love Lucy and like that club in The Mask... places to go and sit, have a nice dinner with live music and a dancefloor that isn't just screaming noise and bodies throwing around but real dancing.

And can you really learn to dance like that - from your mother?
Atlanta had clubs to swing dance around that time, but mostly we went to country or blues bars and just took over a corner. Lots of dirty looks at the country bars, but never anything more than that.

Im sure there are places like that still around. ive heard there was an rock oldies club near my area but ive never got around to going. never knew how to dance Old..um.. Old school lol. wish i knew. heard anyone that went really knew their stuff and were already dance enthusiasts so, its not your everyday clubs. not sure if its still around tho.
shareMaybe you do need to live in a major urban area where there is just more variety in interests and entertainment. I live in the SF Bay area where there are swing dance and jitterbug clubs, and also societies and organizations that have regular (that is weekly) dances and other parties. Big fun. People who know that style of dancing are usually thrilled to find others who want to learn.
Check out your local Art Deco Society for a start!

I live in the Los Angeles area (where the movie is set) and I don't know of any club like this, but OMG I would love it if there was. I think the dance music and the dancing in the 1940s were far superior to what they have now. I'd have lots of fun in a club like the one in the movie.

Check out Cicada Clud on South Olive Street. Not exactly the same but authentic 1920's club...

Not real but if you're in LA you should check out Cicada Club on South Olive street. Especially sundays as they do a full on 1920 style...

Watching the film the other night I was thinking, "Oh how I'd love to visit a venue like "Club 40" and feel like I'm stepping back in time to the good ol' days of the roaring 20s to warring 40s and even fabulous 50s!!! The Wilshire Grand makes me feel the same way when watching "The Thirteenth Floor." Anyway just wanted to say thanks as I didn't believe such venues existed anymore. And this one looks gorgeous inside so resplendently art deco!
shareClub 40's was shot as LA Union Train station in the axillary wing. It doesn't exist. However, at the time, The Derby in Los Felix are of LA was quite similar. Nowadays, there is a club just as such called The Edison, in downtown LA that would suit your needs. It is built in an abandoned Edison DC power plant. It is awesome! Dancing, fire circus.... Everything. A must see.
