One thing he said in this movie made his arguments in later movies moot.

"They call it 'Great Britain', but there's nothing great about it'.

Yet in Sicko he goes on and on about the British healthcare system and how great it is.

On top of being a massively insulting comment to British people, he then goes ahead and praises our healthcare system in Sicko? I used to like him until I saw this movie. I think it shows his true colours, he's quick to dismiss anything as crap until it somehow benefits his point, then it's great.

The point he fails to mention is that "Great Britain" isn't a boastful name as he seems to take it. It comes from the Latin name for the island: Britannia Superior, meaning "Greater Britain", since it is the largest of the British Isles.

Yeah, the word "superior" is in NO way boastful, well explained.

All kidding aside, maybe a better way to explain that would have been simply to note that instead of generic greatness, the word refers to physical/geographical SIZE.

No need to bring latin or the word "superior" into it - that's not only funny, but might be psychologically confusing. Just look at your explanation and remove the last bit about "since it is the largest" - you gotta admit it's humorous.

"Hey, 'great' doesn't mean anythin egotistical, BECAUSE it comes from the word SUPERIOR!"..

Just think about it (:

As for the point itself - maybe Moore didn't KNOW back then that there IS something 'great' about the country. Aren't people allowed to be human anymore? Humans are not omniscient and they do make mistakes. Isn't Moore allowed to make a mistake based on ignorance? We ALL have ignorance about something. No one (human) knows everything - that's why all life is constant learning.
