As much as I love(d) this show...

it really lost its feel when:

* They changed the 'Student Bodies' theme song to some sucky Friends theme rip-off.
* When Victor/Flash became friends with Cody and the gang.
* STEVIE, JJ & friends and Morgan left the show.
* Kim became a regular.

I thought it was consistently solid, even great. It couldn't be like season one forever...

The first season was too Saved by the Bell. While I love that show, it's model doesn't work in the late 90's, case in point, Saved by the Bell: The New Class. Characters like Stevie the nerd and Horace and the football jocks felt like from another era.

I'm probably in the minority but I thought the second season was a lot better. It went away from a SBTB copy into a Boy meets World copy where it fit better to me. I do agree about the Friends style theme. While the first season theme feels dated, I liked it much more. I like Victor and Flash being part of the gang. Morgan could have stayed as a recurring character. Kim was no Grace.

I like the second season better too! Most of the characters were such caricatures in the first season. While the show got rid of several characters like that, they also toned down others (Romeo became less flirty and truly fell for Emily, Victor became nicer, Mrs. Morton softened up).

I kind of wish they had done that with JJ. I thought he was cute and liked his relationship with Mags. They could still have had him dumb and codependent on his friends but in a more realistic way. I thought he and his friends were really funny even if they were over the top.

I kind of like the way they got rid of Grace's clumsiness. It was too over the top and made her a one joke character. However, I wish they had kept it a little bit. There's a cute bit early in season two when, after sharing a practice kiss with Cody, she gets nervous and knocks something off the table. I think that would have worked well. Grace isn't usually clumsy but becomes so when she's nervous.

I think the show wanted to get rid of Chris's crush on Morgan which I think was a good move. It made him look really pathetic and even a bit creepy. He became more likeable later and they were able to take him in a new direction. Morgan probably still could have hung around but there would be still for her to do. Maybe the actress didn't want that.

I liked that Romeo and Grace got bigger roles whereas they were more supporting characters in the first season. They turned from one joke characters (Romeo is a ladies man and Grace is clumsy) to being much more developed. I loved both of them and thought Romeo was really funny.

I liked Flash and Victor being part of the gang too. They added something extra and Victor became funnier in the later seasons.

I agree about the theme song as well. The first one was so catchy!
