The Henry appreciation thread

He is in a class of his own (no pun intended).

He gets all the best lines! I love his attempts at a posh accent, when it falters and lapses back into cockney!

Anyone else love Henry?

I love it when he tries to make his sentences sound posh, like this gem from the final episode:

"I'm afraid that's the ultimate of the bin, my lord."
"Sorry?"
"There's none left!"

also one from the visit to the country when Ralph wants to kill Meldrum -

"They've gone unto the woods to look for mushrooms".

"If we go on like this, you're going to turn into an Alsatian again."

reply

Love him! 'I'm not daft, Mr Stokes'. And that pained expression he wore while holding Aubrey Wilmsloe's equipment!

I also love his mini-retaliations when nobody is looking. Like stealing cherry cake and helping himself to the milk - then topping it up with water. His reaction at the charity auction: "I'm showing a lot here, M'Lord" was priceless!

"Ultimate of the bin" was classic.
Likewise: "To whom do you wish to have business with?"

One great moment concerned the word "fornicator" on the Rolls Royce. James and Mrs Lipton, discussing how to protect Lord Meldrum's reputation, were horrified when Henry piped up:

"Yeah. Even if it IS true and 'e and Lady Agatha 'AVE been going at it, 'ammer and tongs".

BUT my all-time favourite was on the charabanc on "A Day in the Country":

LADY LAVENDER: "And who are you?"
HENRY: "I'm the one who drew the short straw..."

Hooray for Henry!

Yes! Henry is wonderful...I even named my rabbit after him!

"Whhhoooomsoever do you wish to see?"

"I bet you can't remember the last time you 'ad a bit of swan, eh, Mabel?"

"It's time we were both in bed, Mrs Lipton."

Yes yes ! I've remembered that line for many years :) I have the dvd's, but haven't watched that episode yet. Can't wait to see it again.

Felt really sorry for him. Twelvetrees was a bully, hitting him the way he did.Why didn't Alf put a stop to it?

reply

cause he was thwacking at him too! even when he did nothing [wrong or otherwise].

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

I agree that he had the best lines, or maybe his delivery turned them into the best. I thought he was the funniest of the lot.

"Hi Mrs. Cooper, it's Penny. I think I just broke your son."

I love it when James is telling Ivy off for setting the table incorrectly

James: How many times have you been told that the cutlery should always be exactly one inch from the edge of the table Ivy?
Ivy: Sorry Mr Twelvetrees...
James: It's no good being sorry. I mean, look at this... An inch and a quarter....An inch and a half....And look at this! Nearly two inches!
Henry: Not.....two inches Mr Twelvetrees???!!!

His delivery is so funny!

Indeed! I'm watching the series for the 3rd time and I'm discovering (or I didn't remember) he has the best lines!
