Why so long at the tracks AFTER finding jewelry?

When they went back out to find the jewelry to bribe the guard to let the guy go, it was dark. When they found it, it was still pre-dawn. When she finds it, she and her son embrace at the tracks A LONG TIME!!!!

By the time they go back into the station, it's daylight - WTF? What made them dilly dally? The guard told her to hurry, he didn't have all night.

When they FINALLY return from JUST OUTSIDE the station, the night guard is gone and the day guard is there and they've sent him off to jail somewhere else!

Before I get all wrapped up in the fact that it's their fault he was caught and sent to jail, due to the boy running off, her not getting her butt on the train sooner and then them having a reunion on the tracks...

Would the guard have just let him walk out of the station? Probably not, but she and her son seemed a little slow on the draw and even though they behaved so DESPERATELY, neither had a real sense of urgency in improving their situation...

It was Toliyan's fault, not Sanyo's fault.

If Toliyan was not a thief, he would not have fled at the sight of the guards approaching him.

He was a thief and he was scared when they approached him. He thought he was finally caught, so he fled, bringing about his own destruction.

Yes, the guards began to approach Toliyan because Sanyo abruptly turned around and ran, but it was not Sanyo's fault that Toliyan was captured.

That was Toliyan's own fault, and, by that point in the film, Toliyan and Katya knew he was on the verge of being caught because he was making too many mistakes.

Sanyo and Katya probably unconsciously slowed down because of the weight of the entire experience with him. They were battered and weary, and in those moments looking for the earrings, they were liberated from his presence in a way they had not been since he entered their lives. The timeless time of the night, the exhaustion, the liberation, the entire experience with him, him being captured, their life with him was over and they knew it and the time passed beyond their desire to restore a life that was killing them.
